I think it entirely depends. Twice fried chunky chips are amazing. Crunchy outside and fluffy inside. But like a large soggy fries from mcdonald's. Pure gold.
I like soggy ones from McDonald's because for some reason they're always extra salty. Not all soggy fries are equal tho. I have no Idea what they do differently to make some soggy fries great and others trash.
Soggy fries... why not just microwave some frozen fries and call it good at that point? My fry hot takes; McDonalds fries have a half-life of about 3 minutes until they become totally inedible, ketchup is foul and ruins any food it touches, tiny shoestring fries > than huge slab steak fries, and European style with mayo and vinegar... actually pretty good.

This is absolutely true. Let me clarify, I don't like any and all soggy fries; neither to I like any and all crispy fries, and what makes one in either category good or bad is an elusive quality. Just do whatever McDonald's does, I guess.
I DO microwave frozen fries from time to time, but soggy or crispy, nuked or baked, it's hard to alleviate the "frozen" taste.
True... but I have had decent luck with an air fryer. Not the bucket drawer kind, those are just a waste, but the oven kind (the ones that usually also have a rotisserie setting.) Just a light mist of some kind of aerosolized oil on the frozen fries and they generally come out tasting pretty close to deep fried... provided there has been no freezerburn. To get them right though you do have to air fry the crap out of them, to the point where they are more crispy than it sounds like you enjoy. And it is most successful with the seasoned ones (arby's style basically) and I think the seasoning mostly helps to cover up the 'frozen' taste.
I wanted to get an air fryer, but we really don't have space for another countertop appliance. We already didn't have space when my sister bought us a stand-up mixer over the Thanksgiving holiday, so now we REALLY don't have space! But, were I in the market for a little domestic unrest, might you suggest a brand/type? I have no idea the difference between the various types.

Our family has on the first air fryers they ever put out, when they were still insanely expensive. So even though its already outdated, its does everything a toaster oven does but way better. Air fryer is actually kind of a bogus claim. What it really is, is a small... toaster sized convection oven. It uses a fan to more evenly heat air around whatever is being cooked. The bonus, and where "fryer" comes in... is basically in cooking temperature and times. You can cook something more evenly, quicker. It is closer to frying than just traditionally baking something is. Suggestions? Well; to get the most out of it, go for the cheapest one you could find that's big enough (and has the rotisserie function) to rotisserie cook a chicken. You could buy a more expensive one, but because of the cycloning air... grease gets everywhere and they are hard to clean. I find it better just to get a cheap one and replace it after about 3 or 4 years. Even expensive ones I see other people buy, something breaks on it around 3 or 4 years in anyway. You'll get great use out of the rotisserie cooking things like turkey breasts or pork tenderloins, and it is just much faster for cooking frozen items than heating a whole full-sized oven. Mine came with a "fry basket" which you put fries in and they tumble via the rotisserie function while they cook. I found it useless for fries, they cook just as well on the flat rack. But the basket works great for "air frying" vegetables. Fill it with big chunks of carrots, whole mushrooms, broccoli, and brussels sprouts... spritz with aerosolized butter or olive oil, and air fry it for a while (outside of the sprouts brown and separate) and its great.
I never been to an In-N-Out burger place before. I don't even think we have them in Michigan. Five guys on the other hand are just fine. Granite, I don't have them that often and while they can be expensive, I just go for their cheap items. They can be a bit too greasy though. Also, whenever I showed up there, I rarely ever had to wait for a long lines. Then again, I either go there early enough that it doesn't matter when I do eat there. I know the Five Guys burgers in my areas, tend to move free quickly and have a lot of staff.
You may need to expand on this because I don’t know what opinion they hold for BBQ that is on opposition to Australia.
Five Guys is just not worth the price imo.
No wonder you hate Five Guys so much. $22 for a goddamn burger in California? That is freaking outrageous! Most burgers only cost half that in Michigan. Hell, most burgers will run you 7 to 10 dollars alone. You go to any five guys in the midwest or down south, and it won't cost you $22. Like I said before, the food is good, but it can be a bit on the greasy side depending on which location you go to. The service there is pretty good though. At least in Michigan. I am never moving to New York or California. The tax there is ridiculous. Michigan has its problems, but even the state usually doesn't pull bull crap off like this most of the time.
