All right since everyone here is attacking Speaker Pelosi. I will be the one to simp for her and defend her, and her husband. So attack me if you're arguing about her record. First, do I agree with everything she says, and does... no. I don't agree with her lack of support for the Green New Deal major, universal healthcare(M4A), or free college. That said she is an American hero, and people who wrote history books will hold her in high standing. She is America's diplomat and stateswoman. Why?

She passed the Inflation Reduction Act which is a giant social infrastructure bill

She passed an actual infrastructure bill unlike Donald Trump and Paul Libertarian douche Ryan

She passed the Chips Act which brought semi-conductor fabs back to the US including my City of Columbus Ohio

During Obama's term, she passed Lilly-Led Better, the Affordable Care Act, and had a productive congress for when Obama had a supermajority

She passed veterans' healthcare for Burn pits

Now onto her foreign policy

She visited Taiwan, and President Tsai when communist PLA officers wanted PLAAF J-20s to shoot down her plane. It was basically her, an Amphibious Assault Ship with F-35Bs, and a small carrier strike group vs all of fucking China, and their Navy plus Air Force, AND she got them to back down

She visited Armenia despite it being against US interests to stop an invasion and likely genocide by Azeri Forces in Azerbaijan

She helped supply arms to Ukraine(Nuff Said)

She once without much US military protection went to Syria and spoke with Syrian President Assad to calm Bush Jr down from invading Syria at a time when the Us had two wars going on. Do you have any idea how much a lot of people in the Middle East hate Jews?

If you have done half of this, come talk to me about how much she sucks.

Edit: If the US was literally any other country she would already be elected head of state.

The far left hates her for not being left enough, the far right hates her since they are afraid of her, and rightly so since she gets shit done. She is a really effective politician.

Really the only thing that bugged me about her doing that was the timing since it could have resulted in Russia and China strengthening ties, but it is one of those things that took balls to do and needed to be done.

Nah, totally disagree, it was a total waste of time that achieved nothing and risked a ton. We already support the one china policy so this bipolarity just brings instability. If anything it'd alienate China from us even more and drive them into Putin's warm, vodka-scented embrace. It most definitely didn't need to be done. It's one thing if she'd support Hong Kong during its protests when there already was a problem but that would actually matter, this just needlessly poked a sleeping bear.

The only thing she's effective at is gathering donation money, nothing significant about policy that the actual people want.

You seem to be ignoring how important donations are, on top of just being wrong about her accomplishments. She was instrumental in the passing the Affordable Care Act but I suppose you would rather have nothing. She also played a big role in the repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell during the Obama years and during Biden's tenure she was able to pass the American Rescue Plan, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, and the Inflation Reduction Act when the democrats had the barest majority. She gets shit done.

Donations are the thing that allow politicians to be legally bribed and be owned by special interests and in turn not be responsive to public opinions. They're the single worst thing in politics today. She's like the drug dealer who is keeping everyone in an area hooked to this evil that is destroying their lives. Campaign finance reform and the removal of lobbying and political donations is the biggest issue in politics today. If we can't move to a system where every politician gets a set amount of money to run with from the state and they are no longer allowed to take donations from private individuals, nothing will ever improve.

Being instrumental in passing a republican health care act (romneycare) when you have a super-majority is a FAILURE, she should have passed single payer healthcare.

Rescue plan gave trillions to corporations and banks that the fed printed, and bunched it together with relief for people so that it would be political suicide to vote against all the pork. Infrastructure bill is also something that is full of money going to big corporations. And we wouldn't have had that much inflation if the fed didn't print all those trillions in the first place.

The more things you bring up the more you remind me how shit she is.

Is this a deliberate joke or just coincidence?
Kinda both? It came out unintentionally, but then I noticed it, and then I left it there cause it was fate.

Look, it's totally important for us to remember all the bare fucking minimum she's done to be comparable to even a Rockefeller Republican without being laughed out of the room, let alone anyone in the center or remotely left. Just because she uses her position as Speaker to blockade policies supported by 90% of her own party's voters and 60% of the voting public at large, combats leftward movement by any means necessary, and negotiates with Republicans while freezing out Congressvermin on her own left flank, doesn't mean she's a bad politician.

She does what really matters, when it really matters.

Oh right, I forgot the level of understanding here.

The democrats had a super majority for like half a month, if even that and the ACA has been a huge success, so much better then what we had and if you think its not then you can go sit in your anti-establishment corner and complain about something getting done when nothing should have been done.

You are one of those people who thinks we shouldn't do anything unless its perfectly what you want, that is one of the most toxic ideologies for a democratic system since it results in nothing being done. You want to know why the infrastructure bill is so great, even if what you say is true, which it probably isn't, it's because we HATE to spend money on infrastructure and have needed to for a very long time and it will do a lot of good even if there is some graft, but you just want our system to keep rotting cause its not perfect. Go back to your corner.

To just add on to this, the Democratic supermajority also relied on a number of "blue dog" conservative members (many of whom were voted out in 2012) and independents, the most important of which was Joe Lieberman. For those who were not old enough or simply forgot, Joe actually gave a speech at the Republican 2008 national convention and endorsed McCain for president over Obama. He also very publicly stated he would filibuster any healthcare bill that included even a public option, let alone a single-payer model.

If I recall right, he said that about healthcare plans without provisions with how to pay for them. Are you sure that he endorsed McCain for president? I tried looking for that but all I could find was Cindy McCain (John McCain's widow) supporting Joe Biden in 2020. No mention of Biden endorsing McCain over Obama.

Not pictured: Harry Reid whipping votes to change Senate rules and eliminate the filibuster, to pass a health care with the public option. Or for that matter, passing it through reconciliation.

You are one of those people who thinks we shouldn't do anything unless its perfectly what you want, that is one of the most toxic ideologies for a democratic system since it results in nothing being done.
As opposed to doing nothing and pretending you did, which was the Obama administration's forte.

Actually pictured: a belief infrastructure bill funding actually goes towards infrastructure, and isn't just the omnibus label applied to pork since the Congressional moratorium on earmarks since 2011.

Upon whose ass Harry Reid had every intent to drop the hammer, until saved by Barack Obama...in time to torpedo the public option.

So just a question in general. But if a politician starts to speak endlessly in an obvious attempt to block a democratic mandate through a trick of procedure, isn't there any mechanism in place for the House speaker to shoot him down? Turn off his mic or even just have him dragged out of the room.

Or heck. Even just something underhanded like tricking him to be out of the room before the meeting and just lock the doors. Its not like the filibust giver had any intention to meaningful contribute to the debate anyway.

Joe Lieberman, not Joe Biden. My bad for making that unclear.

Fun fact, you don't even need to talk to filibuster. You can filibuster by email and hold up any piece of legislation you like.

In Australia, a special rule was created for emergency use to clamp down on that sort of thing. For a long time it went unused, but then our conservative party worked out they could call on it anytime the opposition party speaks, and abused the ever loving hell out of it prior to our last election. After all if no one is allowed to voice disagreements or shine light on misdeeds, do they exist???

Every time you think American politics can’t be any more broken…..
