See, the snake especially comes off like a folkloric element that feels authentic while also being very fantastical so you can kinda see it fitting with everything around it like an old painting coming to life. Harambe was prolly enlarged by the immortality juice that kept him alive after he had a sword stabbed into his neck so he likely wasn't an endemic species. The other monkeys you fight are more realistic.
Well, yeah, being able to keep going with its head cut off was also a bit on the fantastical side as well. Even for a FROM game.

By realistic, I take it you mean by size and type, not "Monkeys can expertly duel wield swords and use firearms with some proficiency"(as opposed to randomly shoot things, like you'd expect an actual monkey with a gun to do)? Jury's Still out on the Monkey Booze though, because somehow I like the idea of monkey's figuring out how to ferment fruit into alcohol and get themselves drunk.

Japanese monkeys are very smart actually. There were these macacs near the sea and researchers were feeding them potatoes at a beach. They were smart enough to know how to wash the potatoes in the water to get the sand off but they didn't just stop at that. Eventually they figured out that potatoes taste better after they dipped them in the sea water cause it has salt. And this was common knowledge that kept alive for over 50 years so now they all just know to dip potatoes in water. If you imagine a world where they have been taught to fight for long enough it's not entirely out there XD.

As for the monkey booze, that one's pretty interesting too. Though it's not like the monkeys drank it. They just hid fruit in too many places and the ones they forgot about turned to booze that people then discovered.

Thankfully, I never played any other games that copied Arkham's combat, and stopped playing AC since Brotherhood, so I'm not bothered by it. As they reveal more about the combat, I will see if it's worth it. Even if it is derivative, I can always go for another samurai game. I said this back on the old site, we're in a samurai/ninja game golden age. I am taking all I can get.

Well I will preface that they do seem to be more on the Arkham or Shadow of Mordor side, with decent animations and a sense of weight.

The main pitfall of that combat system, and this is one of the giveaways that they might be using it when you watch the video, is you're standing their constantly waiting for enemies to attack 1 by 1, so you can hit Triangle (on the Ps4) to do your flashy counter kill thing. Badass and flashy as it may be, it quickly becomes something of a chore with a lot of waiting, and the flashy moves lose lustre after the 5th/10th/50th time.

Arkham and SoM also had some amount of activity to them where you had to build up the ability to coutner by performing succesful basic attacks or dodges first. Which seems like what may also be on display here (there is a meter in the bottom at one point that could certainly be the sotred "fisnisherS".

I didn't know about the salt thing but I don't doubt it at all.

As for the monkey booze, it turns out there's some truth to that too. Which I totally just found right now.

Just as long as the monkeys with access to the booze don't also have access to the weapons, we should be okay.....

You'll find that primates can be taught all sorts of things, regardless of where their forest happened to grow.
Hopefully nobody teaches them the secret arts of dual wielding then haha.

The game looks and sounds amazing, but the combat and stealth do seem pretty meh. I really hope its more demo gameplay than actual gameplay, like that case it was with Fallen Order. Man that game looked slow as shit in the first trailers.

I just finished The Witcher 3, and I'm getting major TW3 vibes from this game. Mostly because of the horse riding and plant looting and shrines that unlock abilities. But also because of that feeling you get when you're riding into the sunset and the game's soundtrack comes in... really sucks you out of our shitty reality and into the game.

Also its hilarious that once again all Sony had to do to "win" was wait for Microsoft to fuck up and then just come in and not do something stupid.

What did M$ fuck up this time? Legit not following much of the next gen news but I didn't see much of note outside of some meh trailers where in-engine graphics idle posing for 3 seconds is described as gameplay lol.

But yeah, basically all sony has to do is release a console which doesn't set your house on fire or explode when you turn it on and it'll win.

Yeah its the "gameplay" trailer thing. Its nothing too big really, nothing on the level of "we wont let you play second hand games", but the timing of the release of all of Sony's trailers reminded me of their "Used Game Instructional Video" promo.

I don't think I'm ever going to play this. I've enjoyed a ton of samurai cinema, but this still looks so exciting. There just doesn't seem to be anything fun about the gameplay.

Think this is gonna be my last PlayStation too. I haven't gotten anything since Spider-Man last year, which I quit after a few hours. I'm obviously not in Sony's target demographic anymore.

You shouldn't give up that easily. Do as you wish, but I don't care for every Sony game either, but I'm not gonna give up altogether. At least Sony and Nintendo still try with new IPs or do something interesting with their existing ones. Microsoft, I was never part of their target demographic to begin with when they first joined the console race back in November 15th, 2001. For reference, I was 12. The only reason I ever got a 360 was due to Sony fucking up with the $599.99 US Dollars! Otherwise my console would have been a PS3. By the time a PS3 became even affordable, I told my myself to just get a PS4, as a good amount of games that were on PS3 got ported to the PS4. So that worked better for me in the long run.

Meant to say unexciting, which you probably figured out.

I don't like what Sony does with the existing IPs. I quit God of War about halfway into the story. It's the only one of the four I didn't like and didn't finish. The scripted walking and talking and the over the shoulder camera feel so out of place in that series. Something else that I found pretty apparent is the lack of ambient or bombastic music, replaced by depressing silence and talking. The setpieces and violence are tamer, also to my disappointment. The Last of Us, Part II looks like torture porn and I dislike one of the characters and what they've done with the old characters. I didn't find the first one great anyway. Never finished Infamous: Second Son and found First Light average, though I never played the older ones. Gravity Rush 2, one of the few Japanese games I played, was a downgrade. I liked the original so much more. The Uncharted series was better under the old leadership, although none of them have ever been great. Doesn't seem like there have been that many sequels to old IPs.

I've only played some of their new IPs. With most of them, I can just tell they're not for me. Horizon was okay. A 3 out of 5. Wouldn't play it again. Until Dawn was kind of good. Enjoying it less the second time. Never finished The Last Guardian, to my surprise.

My favorite PS4 games out of the roughly eighteen I bought were Gravity Rush Remastered and Shadow of the Colossus, a remaster and a 1:1 remake. They remind me how much Sony has lost by switching so much to expensive western productions with emotional cinematic flair or the usual open world stuff. I've had far more luck finding fun games on my Switch, which was surprising after not playing on a Nintendo console since the Gamecube.

And there's nothing wrong with that. I love God of War 4 despite its problems. At least fixed most of the issues in a patch update. They added a new game plus and you can skip most of the cutscenes. There's only one or two walkie-talkie sequences you can't skip, but they're so minor it doesn't bother me much. Hopefully for the fifth game, they can let Kratos actually jump and have New game plus in after you beat the game and not have to wait for an update.

Gravity Rush 2 I lost interest in at two-thirds of it. It just came off as repetitive and every time a new power-up happened you have to do a mandatory tutorial. That makes it no fun. I have bought Gravity Rush Remastered, but I've yet to play it. I liked Uncharted 4 gameplay wise, but I hated Sam Drake in Nadine Ross. The Last Guardian and Horizon I did not have much interest in. I do not care less for The Last of Us games. until dawn is a great game to play with friends or your relatives to see who survives. But once you join everything there is not much to it. I always felt that the infamous games should have ended with two.

The reason why I got a switch and a PS4, is for the Japanese third party games. Both tend to have either unique third-party exclusives, or they both happened to be on the same consoles. most of the switches first-party Nintendo lineup I don't care much for either. plus, Sony will bounce back at some point and actually have more Japanese first party titles. Sooner or later for fatigue set in, or people want something new. Stuff like this always happens. Remember when everyone was on the Halo, Gears of War, or Call of Duty hype train? Sony at least had two FPS franchises that tried to copy COD, or Gears. Resistance at least turned it around with the third game. There was actual color and you had a weapon wheel and not a stupid to weapon when it. You also had an actual health meter and not regenerative health. Killzone was more of the same crap, just a different flavor of get behind cover you only get about two weapons you can carry total. Those days are over, thank Christ and heavenly Buddha.

I've heard the jump complain before, but I never really understood it since nothing in the game requires you to jump. In the classic games Kratos' jump was pretty awkward and wooden anyway. I'd say the only thing they need to add in terms of a "jump" is to allow Kratos to follow enemies into the air after a launcher to perform, like, piledrivers and shit.

Man I really want to like this game, but nothing about it seems all that interesting.

The setting is unique, I don't think I've seen other games about the Mongol invasions of Japan, but other than that I don't see anything to get excited about. The entire time they were talking about exploration in the game I didn't see a single thing that got me excited to explore. Seeing that huge map and thinking about how empty it probably is just made me really not care.

Combat looks servicable but nothing special as well. All in all I'm sure it'll be a decent enough game that plenty of people will like, but mechanically it looks very unambitious.

The problem is it that some puzzles are easily solved if Kratos just jumped. But no, he has to push to block in a certain direction so he can climb apathway or climb the ladder. His old jump may have been weird or wooden, but at least it was there. He's a freaking demigod; jumping shouldn't even be much of an issue for him. And I do love the ideas you presented for a launching combo in to a piledriver. Santa Monica should definitely use that.

I knew God of War wouldn't have a jump button when they showed the first trailer. Over the shoulder combat just doesn't lend itself to platforming. Which is another reason I would have preferred a free camera pulled way back. The lack of jumping really hurts the exploration.

Platforms barely even matter anymore with even now PS games coming out on PC it's looking like. It's just who do you wanna give you're money to (PC, PS, XBOX) for the few AAA games that are actually worth playing. The problem with the Switch like pretty much any Nintendo console after the SNES is the limited game library. You can't play stuff like Invisible Inc, Outer Wilds, Shadow Tactics, Desperados 3, A Plague Tale, etc. on the Switch. It doesn't take beefy hardware to play any of the most interesting games, though you might like a couple that do require the beefy hardware.
