Meant to say unexciting, which you probably figured out.
I don't like what Sony does with the existing IPs. I quit God of War about halfway into the story. It's the only one of the four I didn't like and didn't finish. The scripted walking and talking and the over the shoulder camera feel so out of place in that series. Something else that I found pretty apparent is the lack of ambient or bombastic music, replaced by depressing silence and talking. The setpieces and violence are tamer, also to my disappointment. The Last of Us, Part II looks like torture porn and I dislike one of the characters and what they've done with the old characters. I didn't find the first one great anyway. Never finished Infamous: Second Son and found First Light average, though I never played the older ones. Gravity Rush 2, one of the few Japanese games I played, was a downgrade. I liked the original so much more. The Uncharted series was better under the old leadership, although none of them have ever been great. Doesn't seem like there have been that many sequels to old IPs.
I've only played some of their new IPs. With most of them, I can just tell they're not for me. Horizon was okay. A 3 out of 5. Wouldn't play it again. Until Dawn was kind of good. Enjoying it less the second time. Never finished The Last Guardian, to my surprise.
My favorite PS4 games out of the roughly eighteen I bought were Gravity Rush Remastered and Shadow of the Colossus, a remaster and a 1:1 remake. They remind me how much Sony has lost by switching so much to expensive western productions with emotional cinematic flair or the usual open world stuff. I've had far more luck finding fun games on my Switch, which was surprising after not playing on a Nintendo console since the Gamecube.
And there's nothing wrong with that. I love
God of War 4 despite its problems. At least fixed most of the issues in a patch update. They added a new game plus and you can skip most of the cutscenes. There's only one or two walkie-talkie sequences you can't skip, but they're so minor it doesn't bother me much. Hopefully for the fifth game, they can let Kratos actually jump and have New game plus in after you beat the game and not have to wait for an update.
Gravity Rush 2 I lost interest in at two-thirds of it. It just came off as repetitive and every time a new power-up happened you have to do a mandatory tutorial. That makes it no fun. I have bought
Gravity Rush Remastered, but I've yet to play it. I liked
Uncharted 4 gameplay wise, but I hated Sam Drake in Nadine Ross.
The Last Guardian and
Horizon I did not have much interest in. I do not care less for
The Last of Us games. until dawn is a great game to play with friends or your relatives to see who survives. But once you join everything there is not much to it. I always felt that the infamous games should have ended with two.
The reason why I got a switch and a PS4, is for the Japanese third party games. Both tend to have either unique third-party exclusives, or they both happened to be on the same consoles. most of the switches first-party Nintendo lineup I don't care much for either. plus, Sony will bounce back at some point and actually have more Japanese first party titles. Sooner or later for fatigue set in, or people want something new. Stuff like this always happens. Remember when everyone was on the
Halo, Gears of War, or
Call of Duty hype train? Sony at least had two FPS franchises that tried to copy
COD, or
Gears.
Resistance at least turned it around with the third game. There was actual color and you had a weapon wheel and not a stupid to weapon when it. You also had an actual health meter and not regenerative health.
Killzone was more of the same crap, just a different flavor of get behind cover you only get about two weapons you can carry total. Those days are over, thank Christ and heavenly Buddha.
