The bill would of course decriminalize marijuana, but also start expunging the records of people who had been arrested for marijuana previously, assuming it passes the senate and get signed, the federal government will catch up with the majority of the states.

Still waiting for the stimulus bill. It's not a good idea to just wait until who wins Georgia. Just pass something small and do whatever you want when Joe is sworn in.

Is there much support among Republicans for the bill? Cuz its still gotta go through the Senate.

If nothing else, I'd like to see marijuana decriminalized just to shut up the people who think saying "420 blaze it bro" is some sort of clever counter-culture declaration. (Not saying this is an example, just a lead-in.)

However, I expect a lot of resistance from the conservative "lazy potheads belong in cages" sort.

I mean a step in the right direction, I'll maintain that all drugs should be legal though and instead of wasting resources fighting pointless drug wars we should use those resources to invest in social programs to rehabilitate addicts, but whatever.

Muricans in general believe in punishment, not rehabilitation. Maybe in a couple of decades once boomers die off, people will finally be able to move forawrd.

Yeah, I guess you're right but since their decision to do that directly affects my country since all the illegal drug contraband basically comes from México I'm pretty sure I'm allowed to complain about it, of course I also want the same thing done in México.

It be hilarious if this passed and not the stimulus bill.
It would be expected. Republicans don't believe in handouts, they want an 'honest' days work for an honest days pay and anything less is bad and makes men weak. I don't know where the zeitgeist is with pot with them though. Its just as likely to sit on turtle mitch's desk as to actually even get a hearing. Although we will see what happens in Georgia.

I think the opiod epidemic made Republicans realize that drugs just wasnt a African American issue. If they acted like they did under Reagan, there should have been massive sweeping crackdowns on them

Hand out shares in marijuana agribusinesses to Senators. They'll vote for legalisation in the blink of an eye.

We shall see, it seems like republicans are much harder to get to swallow crow. Everyone knows that legalization is coming, but I'll bet there are a good number of them that know that and would still be like "not till I'm in the ground."
