    Your Five Must-Plays

    1. Adventure for the Atari 2600. When you have no memory, no cycles, and an eight-directional joystick with one button... You can still make this. (Or if Adventure is absolutely not your speed, try Pitfall 2, which is probably the absolute height of what could be done with the hardware.) 2...

New hard game comes out. Idiot press wants easy mode.

I can kind of respect wanting a certain subset of games to be hard. But I don't love the fetishizing of difficulty, or seeing that spread across the industry; they often seem to have a knack for trying to imitate a popular trend without any real clue as to what made it popular, and we have...

    Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines 2!!

No matter how storied the pedigree, it's difficult for me to get that excited about any game until they provide something more than a trailer of pretty pre-rendered concept art. Vtm:B was a bit of a mess. Often a pretty, imaginative, interesting mess, a mess that was worth spending some time...

    Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

I enjoyed the movie a lot. The writing in particular is fantastic- self-aware, clever, deft, fast-moving without being weightless. I don't entirely feel like I can compare it to other Spider-Man movies or even other superhero movies because it's so much its own thing. It so embraces the idea...

What do you think of Yahtzee's books?

Jam's pacing felt a little off to me. It didn't help that about three-quarters of the book are silly and relatively light-hearted, for all that it's kind of post-apocalyptic, and then suddenly a bunch of people who have survived a bunch of ridiculous circumstances by the seat of their plot armor...

So Aquaman....its everything I expected it would be.

So I saw it today. Liked it better than I expected. I'd say it's probably worth a full-priced ticket. Short and sweet: Good: 1. Jason Momoa shows that he can carry a movie as the lead. I'm not saying it's the deepest performance in the world, but he carries a lot on charm and swagger...

So Aquaman....its everything I expected it would be.

I think Aquaman has enough trouble being treated fairly as a lead by the general public without painting- almost introducing- his character as being brooding and serious. I'll hold off on offering an opinion on the movie itself until I get to see the it next week, though.

Is She Interested In Me? Help Needed

It isn't really clear from what you say how acquainted you are with this woman. Do you know her name? Have you spoken? Do you say "hi" as you pass each other on the stairwell? Physical signs aren't necessarily going to help you- in fact, if you spend too much time staring at her trying to...

    I need morale boosting

If no one likes it and people misunderstand what you had to say, you will still have written a goddamn book, which is something an awful lot of would-be writers cannot say. You're probably not going to be the next JK Rowling. You may get published, if you have a strong voice that other people...

So what setting should a Far Cry 6 tackle next?

Maybe a desert setting, just to do something new. Perhaps some place like Mexico, the Sahara, or the Outback.

Discuss and rate the last thing you read

Most of the reading I'm doing these days is between the periodicals that roll through my e-book app (The Atlantic, Edge, Cook's Illustrated) and reading the Artemis Fowl YA series to my daughter. The Atlantic makes more of an effort to offer politically diverse articles than many news...

    Dardevil is also cancelled

Well, crap. I didn't love everything about season 3, but it was still strong, and one hell of an improvement on season 2. I suspect the author is correct that this has more to do with closed-door Disney shenanigans than the success or failure of the show itself. I suspect we haven't hit it...

Why do smart people act stupid sometimes?

There are a lot of different versions of "intelligence", and they don't necessarily bleed into one another. Something like "scholastic intelligence" versus "social intelligence" being one frequently cited example, but there are other divisions. Someone who is an aggressive and effective...

Fallout 76 fixed the "physics tied to framerate" problem...so...

A little bit playing "Devil's Advocate" here- I've liked a lot of Bethesda games, but I've not played Fallout 76 (and based on what I've heard, I'm probably not going to). When it comes to something like a physics/frame rate fix, there's no such thing as a "simple fix". Or rather, maybe there...
