My advice would be to not play a Wow-like MMO, and go and try Airrivals (Ace Online if you're from the US) instead. It's unique enough to warrant a few hours gameplay.
I played the free trial, and really enjoyed it. It'd need some modifications, to remove some of the grind.
On a tangent: Has anyone noticed that every Sith has an English accent? I'm starting to think the world thinks we're evil.

I really only counter-grief, with the exception of some of my friends on a Minecraft server. Once, a friend went away from his keyboard for 2 minutes, so I scattered pressure plates around him and put up a sign saying "Don't move."
I didn't actually put any TNT around. It was glorious.
Gal Civ 2, with Civ IV coming a close second. I might have to pick up Alpha centauri now though. :P
Screw Hearts of Iron, I could never get the hang of it.
In skyrim, any build can be made to be broken. 'Pure' characters seem to be weaker than cross-class characters. Archery (or daggers) and stealth is completely OP, but the same can be said for 100 enchanting with master level destruction spells.
I just downloaded the Civ 5 demo, expecting to dislike it. I now can't wait for the next two days to pass so I can finish my exams and buy it.
If the OP means a game released this year, then mass effect 3 because it's the only thing i've bought since Christmas.
