In 1983 the videogame industry as it was imploded. The market lost nearly 93% of it's value, forcing harsh cutbacks everywhere, and several major publishers went under completely.
The result was a shift of home console development away from America and to Japan until the late 90s.

1. you can already do this, though from personal experiance getting the 360 controller to work with microsoft's PC software is a pain.
2. Gaming computers are already prerty damn cheap, the $1000+ for any sort of gaming PC has long been a fallacy.
3. This is a problem, but there is a...
There are several problems with this arguement, which is trotted out over and over again, is that;
A. A top end gaming PC is vastly more powerful than a console, a machine of comparable power is obtainable for around $600-$700
B. You don't include the Price of the TV in a Console, so don't...
I think there is perhaps one console generation left in the industry. Come to think of it, do we have evidence that the PS4 and Xbox720 are even being worked on?
The points the OP raised are valid, but on their own wouldn't mean the end of the console system.
What is going to put them down...
Me?
Having murdered my way through the entire game, shooting everything that moved, and desecrating all that people of this virtual realm held dear.
I just wanted to watch the world burn.
Stupid stock footage cheated me out of what should have been an epic ending cutscene.
EA has basically realized that PC is still a viable platform, and Steam is the largest community on that platfrom.
They have decided that they should have thought of that idea first and want to make their own.

I have a 4870 and it handles most things just fine. A major reason I haven't upgraded is that there is no need. It will run pretty much every game on...
Victorian London. With side quests to other European cties, perhaps to America one or twice. Think of the awesome steampunk esque gadgets. And a sword cane! Everyone needs a pimping cane.
Subplots witha Sherlock Holmes type character and Jack the Ripper would be pretty awesome.
Though...
Homeworld, Please Relic the 40k stuff is awesome, but so were the space ships. Not to mention the pretty, pretty art.
Planetside, I want an MMOFPS that actually lives up to it's name again. (Yeah I know it is still technically going..)
Brink looks to be positioning itself in the colourful shooter lineup. I really like the Hyperealistic exaggerated art-style they went with.
But yeah totally agree, more inventive use of colour in games please.
An intersting video.
Though for myself I think that it is Console gaming that it irrevocably doomed. The reason is the convergence of technology, a massively obvious example being mobile phones. Ones all these little brick shaped devices could was make phone calls. Now they are miniature...
I've managed to get a 14-day trial account, and as a previous Planetside player would be glad to help the official Escapist team. If You'll have me that is..
As an avid Escapist Reader and and a self admitted Planetside junkie, I jumped at the chance to take part.
May the Escapist vanquish whoever stand against it!
