    Poll: Are ouija boards dangerous?

I don't have to prove he doesn't exist, just as I don't have to prove Bigfoot, Nessie, the Invisible Pink Unicorn, the Flying Spaghetti Monster or that fire-breathing mastodons made of blue cheese and sandpaper don't exist. It's mathematically and scientifically impossible to prove the...

    Poll: Are ouija boards dangerous?

You have a very shaky grasp on the definition of the word, "fact."

    Poll: Are ouija boards dangerous?

It simply indicates that you haven't the means at your disposal to accurately record and measure. Alternately, in the case of such "heebie-jeebies" as discussed in the topic at hand, odds are good that it is simply the mind playing tricks on itself. The power of suggestion also plays a large...

    Poll: Are ouija boards dangerous?

Nicely put. Personally, however, I like to leave the word "truth" out of science. Truth is a subjective abstract. I like to sum it up as such: "Leave truth to the philosophers. Get all the facts, and the truth will sort itself out."

    Poll: Are ouija boards dangerous?

These two statements are completely at odds with one another. Logic dictates that all things can be scientifically measured.

    Poll: Are ouija boards dangerous?

I can sympathize. I live in the southeastern United States, and it's nothing but superstitious idiocy around here. Finding people who think (or read anything longer than 140 characters at a time) is a crapshoot, at best.

    Poll: Are ouija boards dangerous?

Wait... hang on a second. I remember, my grandparents had one. The planchette (which is what that little thingy that you move around the board is called) had a clear plastic window in the middle, with a nail put through it. The end that pointed down was sharp, I recall. If you broke the legs off...

    Poll: Are ouija boards dangerous?

Typical. You claim they're dangerous and a gateway to real power. The burden of proof is on you. Get cracking. Also, nice touch with the "made by hand from wood" part. "No, no, the kind you can buy in a store won't work. You have to have this SPECIAL kind! It's very dangerous, so I won't tell...

    Poll: Are ouija boards dangerous?

It's mathematically impossible to prove the non-existence of something, certainly. But those who proclaim that such things exist must provide empirical proof that they do, as the burden of proof lies upon them. Skepticism must be the default position of any rational thinker. Provide that...

    Poll: Are ouija boards dangerous?

It would seem that the majority of people here are adherents of the basic fundamentals of logic and reason, rather than superstition and fairy stories. If this is true, I think I'm going to like it here. Anecdotal evidence isn't real evidence, btw.

    Skullgirls (upcoming 2D fighter)

You're not. Vince is doing SFX work. I've known him for many years (going back to around late 1995), and he told me about the new job as sound designer. Music composition duties and credits still fall to Yamane. I get what you're saying, but I don't really agree. The more "basic" fighters, a...

    Poll: Are ouija boards dangerous?

They're about as authentic and dangerous as the fortunes you get from those little cookies... except they don't taste as good, and you don't get the fun of adding, "in bed," to the end of every line. There's nothing paranormal or supernatural out there. Nothing spiritual or mystical. No gods...

    Skullgirls (upcoming 2D fighter)

For those interested, the sound designer on this game is Vincent Diamante, the same guy who composed the music for Flower. There is actually a foolproof way to prevent infinites, but I've never seen a game implement it: connect with the same move twice in a single combo, and that second hit...

    Extra Punctuation: Building Sequels Badly

I don't know if anyone's mentioned this yet, but sequels have been around for far longer than games or film. Going back centuries, in fact. They're not a new phenomenon, and they're not ruining entertainment. I get what Yahtzee is trying to say, but abolishing them is quite simply not going to...
