I can't see any good reason to invade a planet to take it's resources. since astroids and stuff most likely have all the resources they'll need, and they don't need to hassle with breaking atmo and killing the things that live there. and then they must clear the area of the now dead things.

I guess it could be like in star trek... 200 years is a long time. and if they came here and did the whole "we come in peace." routine in the beginning and stuck with it, I think it would go fairly well. The important factor is in how different their mindset would be from ours.
