[Update 2] How/why are console gamers satisfied with 30 fps?

I'm not really interested in graphics full-stop ? so long as the framerate doesn't slow enough to affect the gameplay. Having looked at a few links in this thread comparing 30 and 60 fps, I have to admit, I hate 60fps - it looks ridiculous to me, it feels like all the movement is exaggerated...

Teenager attacked by a woman for flying a "drone" over a beach; called a "pervert"

That woman should have the full force of the law thrown at her. Not only is she down for assault, but lying the police is a very serious allegation, particularly if she was attempting to falsely accuse the teenager of assault. She should suffer serious consequences as her actions were completely...

    Watch_Dogs is quite simply AMAZING!!!

Watch_Dogs might just be the most boring game I have ever played. Frustratingly dull gameplay, rubbish plot, rubbish characters, rubbish minigames; everything about it is just so dull. I'm only just into Act II, somebody please tell me it gets better, or I might not bother with finishing it.

Poll: What's the first thing you do after you break-up with someone?

A couple of months ago my girlfriend left me. So I moped around for a few hours, then rang my best mate. A few hours later we were having free dinner and drinks at a cabaret club (courtesy of his roommate who worked for it). Great food and drink and nipple tassels twirling everywhere. Somehow, I...

Why is no one on Star Trek: TNG ever surprised/shocked by anything?

The show is set in the future; in the future humanity has long since evolved away the necessary neurones and glands for surprise!

    What the Bieber?

You'd think given the invasive marketing powers of the internet that selective targeting would mean such an ad wouldn't appear on the Escaptist. Unless we have a secret group of Beliebers skulking around this site!

Are Men Allowed To Be Offended?

Sticking to the main story (rather than galavanting into more Escapist gender debates), clearly the CEO is in the wrong. Refusing to refer to someone by name is dehumanising and using an offensive substitute based on their gender is even worse. This should be considered workplace bullying...

    Sexuality in gaming, your stance?

In any good film, tv show, book, song or uses sexuality in context; only when it is needed. It should not be tacked on for sheer titillation, though neither should it be repressed if context calls for it. So I'm all for whatever level of sexuality in games, so long as it serves a purpose. If it...

Car Accident Takes the Life of Actor Paul Walker

Very sad news, sadder still too see some of the responses to the premature loss of two human lives. If anything, I hope people take away a renewed understanding of driver responsibility - it doesn't matter how good you are (or think you are), one minute mistake at speed and you are over. Roger...

Is society so easily offended by being offended around the offense of the offender?... OH GODS!!

I think it's perfectly acceptable for people to be offended by whatever offends their poor little minds. I think it's perfectly unacceptable that these people should think that anyone else should give a shit about their offence. If you're going to be offended, then either do something about it...

Are action-based female protagonists being limited to one archetype?

    1) The 'bad-ass chick' is probably overused, but so is the sarcastic, cocky and headstrong male archetype. I think it's just a popular archetype, used often in any kind of mass appeal action orientated media. It's very 'Hollywood', which is unsurprising, because Hollywood hasn't had an original...

    free will

I don't believe we have free will. However I believe that determining our behaviour is far too complex to be ever calculated (I mean we would have to examine trillions of parameters at a quantum level); therefore it appears, on a macro level, that we have free will.

360 Gamers: Why have you stopped playing Halo?

I stopped playing because the single player games became banal as hell, and I always sucked at the multiplayer. I guess I just didn't get it, or just came to it too late, but I was awful at Halo 3 online. There's something particularly humiliating about 13 years whomping you in the game and then...

Current financial state of the USA and it's impact on the gaming industry

The USA is going through it's own economic craziness at the moment. The current situation on the budget may have much larger implications beyond the US as well, which is worrying. However, just to refer directly to the OPs post; all modern capitalist economies operate with a large amount of...

    DELETED

I think the majority of game writing can be adequate - good characters with engaging dialogue and interest subplots. Games like Mass Effect have done this excellently by creating realistic, not-completely-cliche characters who you really grow affection for, because they feel real. Then there's...
