Well, here we go...
Apparently, the shooter had a hit list which also included Tim Walz, Ilhan Omar, and Tina Smith. All Minnesota politicians, all Democrats. I also can't help but wonder if Ilhan in particular was also targeted for daring to be a non-WASP politician, as I recall her being told during Trump's first presidency to "return to her own country"...despite being a naturalized citizen.
The list also had abortion doctors and others. The guy's been found to support christian nationalists.
Protest on the sides of the road on my way home again. It's so lame. I almost wanna tell them that the only things that will make the government listen are either unified nationwide strikes or violence. Can't vote their way out because the people they elect will always represent corporate interests, and a protest barely inconveniences anyone. Who gives a shit about some signs? Of course they do it on a Saturday, when they don't have to give anything up.
Yes, protests generally achieve little. They are better viewed as a tool of self-expression rather than a tool of political change. They may work as a form of advertising to increase awareness, except that where they do inconvenience people, they often appear to antagonise the general public and reduce sympathy for the cause.
In the end, burning stuff down at least sends a statement nobody can miss. Whilst it may not win many friends, it does force the authorities to address something. Should their answer be to oppress protestors into submission, it may severely damage the government. And furthermore, whilst the general public may still not sympathise with protestors, they may so unnerved by violence and disorder that they prefer to make concessions for pragmatic reasons.

glad to see goth representation. got loads more of these and none of them nor any live streams from on the ground showed violence or aggression from protestors, it was more akin to a chill festival that occasionally had cops shooting and exploding various chemical "less-lethal" munitions into crowd. a safety measure was to avoid running and causing panic/accidents so whenever the police got itchy there was a measured walking pace away from the danger, to wherever the authorities wanted to move them towards
And the pigs understand it's far harder to manufacture consent for state violence against protests that are predominantly white, all-ages, and cross income brackets/class lines. Look at the back-breaking mental gymnastics performed just to justify the "nonviolent" arrest of the Capitol building sit-in protestors yesterday, with the facially-ridiculous claims of them forcing their way past barricades to protest. Capitol pigs literally moved bicycle stands and called it a barricade.
It's a cycle of codependency. Liberals get to walk around with signs on a nice day without actually having done anything, but feel like they made some kind of proud and bold statement. Those in power get to keep doing exactly what it was they intended to do without any actual resistance. Even if conservatives didn't happen to protest for ruling class interest, and cops generally approve of their "ideology", it's a lot harder a sell for cops to start corralling, gassing, shooting them up with "less lethal" munitions, and beating the absolute piss out of them, because they come to protests armed to the teeth.
Look at January 6th, real lead didn't start flying until the Capitol building had been breached and it was the cops' own asses on the line. We all know for fact had that been BLM, US Marshalls and the Guard would have been mowing protestors down by the wave with ma deuces. That's part of the whole reason the Capitol building lawn was redesigned in '01, to turn the grounds into one gigantic kill box from practically any fortified position near or inside the building itself.
Until protestors start coming prepared to defend themselves, nothing's going to be done and it'll have zero impact. If folks want to make comparisons to the civil rights movement (as they should), they should start with the realization MLK was the carrot to Malcolm X's, Seale's, Newton's, Hampton's, among other's, sticks. And even MLK never denounced armed self-defense, and towards the end of his life began to reconsider the power of pacifism alone to effect change.
What's great is watching Xitter Republicans start claiming he was really a Democrat and this is proof Dems are violent terrorists.
