Can they make up their minds. Last time after years of pretending to put importance in peace they found it glorious when Trump used Bush era talking points to advocate joining the war in Gaza, or use the night of the US to steal Greenland and Canada. But now they’re isolationist again?

No the US was never going to invade Greenland, it was just red meat for the base, and to scare the EU to spend more on defense. Admittedly it worked in me, but Greenland is a frozen wasteland which is too uneconomic to extract resources. Plus the people who live in Alaska aren’t exactly the happiest people so it would require people who get paid allot more to run the mines and other machinery needed to extract the rare earths. Gaza was just to get US dual citizens out of there which worked granted it worked to well in that now Israel has free rein to butcher more people there without the US holding them back thanks Dearborn Michigan, Jill Stein, and the rest of the morons who backed and yes Trump fooled me too somehow I assumed some of his Muslim influencers around him would get him to change his mind. As for isolationist, no US president is. The last time we were we got Pearl Harbored.

Now that very much depends on the law. If all were followed, and always had been, a lot more of us would be living under feudal kings or robber barons. And the US wouldn't exist.

In a stable and just society, the law has to meet people more than halfway, and allow them the framework to live a reasonably good life. But that's not what we have here. The situations that have pushed people to leave their countries of origin-- conflict, repression, and economic turmoil-- often have the muddy fingerprints of the USA or the European empires on them. And the legal routes to resettle are plainly inadequate.

Then we have the simple fact that a lot of undocumented immigrants pay their taxes, don't commit crimes any more than naturalised citizens, and just live their lives and contribute to their communities. Society would also be a lot smoother if people all did that. But ICE doesn't let them.

Somehow even with the existing laws I admitted that wind up favoring the wrong people, people still flock to this country. Yes, part of that is because we screwed their countries up to some extent, and I’ll be the first to admit we should focus on our own domestic issues before knocking on anyone else’s doors. We’ve gotten ourselves into quite a tangled mess over the better part of this past century.

Slavery was once legal in the United States. Lawbreakers went and freed slaves. I guess those laws should have been followed by all so that things would have run more smoothly.

Which is likely contributed to new legislation granting legal status, whether temporary or otherwise to meet the burgeoning labor demand. Legal vs illegal is a matter of language, and that’s perhaps no more evident than visa overstays being considered “undocumented”. Whatever the case, the bottom line is always going to be an issue of capacity in every respect, regardless of whatever policies are made and whomever they wind up favoring.
