If people don't wanna shell out the money, it won't grow and it'll stagnate and eventually they'll get rid of it...in theory, but I guess this would be something of a special circumstance, or would it? Can a forum survive on its own current member base without growth?

SA has been pretty stuck up its own ass for quite awhile now, so this isn't really that surprising. I guess they figure being able to post on their forums with the other "goons" is a privilege people will shell out money for.

Personally I think you could just go to 4chan and get the same quality dialogue PORN without all the bullshit.

If you spend even an hour a week on SA forums for two years, paying what SA asks will end up costing you 10 cents per hour. If that is too high a price for given kind of entertainment, then the entertainment is just not worth consuming, IMO.

I can only conclude people here are extremely poor or extremely cheap.

That said, it keeps the goons having from having to deal with trolls. It is like paying money for a bouncer at a bar. (You never actually pay the bouncer, but the drinks prices will like rise if a bouncer is employed)

I am a member. I think it has gone down hill slightly, less mspaint threads now. But I don't regret the £5 I spent on becoming a member. £5 is nothing for hours upon hours of genuinely funny threads.

believe me i am neither, but by the same token, i get an absolute ton of entertainment on here, the escapists are an amazing bunch, why would i wanna be on a site where people deliberately pay to use it make themselves feel better than everyone else, that said, if the escapist charged i would probably end up paying , which is a bit hypocritical of me but then you get such great entertainment on here like ZP and apocalypse lane, unskippable , unforgotten realms, its better than TV , god bless the internet, god bless the escapist!

Plus, it just doesn't seem like it's worth it. Something Awful is a unfunny humor site with expensive forums. Go figure.

It's actually a $10 account and a $5 avatar. I have an account and an avatar. Just because it costs money when all the other ones are free doesn't mean that it's not worth it; it was less than the money I spent going to see Transformers and War of the Worlds, and I still to this day get much, much more entertainment out of it.

Let's face it, the majority of forums are absolute shit-shows. At least the $10 entrance fee keeps the rabble out. It's not as good as it was when I joined, but its quality has been decreasing at a much slower rate than that of any other forum I've ever used.

A lot of XboxEscapist fanboys/girls here thinking their site is obviously superior to PS3Something Awful because of price and quality. PS3Something Awful goons most likely looks at Escapist and think "Look at that pathetic low-priced gaming consoleforum, it may be cheap, but the quality of the gamesdiscussion is horrible. And then XboxEscapist laughs at PS3 Fanboys SA goons and thinks it is devoid of any good games discussion, comparing their number of good games discussions to that of the Wii 4chan.
