Responses in threads like this are the reasons why I'm starting to dislike the Escapist. If you're going to blast his list, at least be funny about it. Taking a partly tongue in cheek post and responding to it in an overly serious manner just comes off as obnoxious.
Oh I don't mind them blasting the list, most of the criticism has been fair anyway. I think for the most part I failed to communicate that a single one of those things doesn't necessarily mean the game will be bad, but the more that apply, the more likely that it will suck.

The Batman games are fantastic, but they don't fill many of the criteria at all, whereas pretty much the entire list applies to Aliens and Star Trek. Batman showed gameplay, Aliens showed us nothing but cutscenes and half second clips, and also allowed it to release 3 days early (in Oz) about 4 days before the review embargo lifted.

Does this mean I just wasted £28 on Defiance?

Stranglehold was sort of a licensed game and it didn't suck, it rocked.
Okay. I'm kind of glad that I wasn't the only person who didn't hate the crap out Stranglehold. I actually kind of liked it. It ripped off Max Payne in all the right ways.

OT: I really liked Battlefront II and Republic Commando as a kid. They were awesome. Also, Tom Clancy games? Those are licensed games and only a couple suck.
