I agree it's idiotic, and I think he was idiotic enough to actually try to save his sister with tricks from WoW.

What I do not think is that someone as stupid as you claim he is as a 12 year old realizes much about how to spin a story of dangerous animal attacks into a PR boost for World of Warcraft.

You do realize you basically called him "savvy" and "an idiot" at the same time right?
Spinny, spinny, spinny.

Writting his intelligence off simply because he's 12 is a mistake, methinks. Them 12 year olds can be rather crafty.

Sorry, but that has to take the cake for most ridiculous statement of the day, if not of the week or month.

The kid is 12 years old. He isn't a rocket scientist... He's a kid. He saved the life of his sister. Maybe he's illiterate, maybe he's a totalt WoW-nerd. Maybe a lot of things.

The fact of the matter is that he saved his sisters life. That is pretty fucking awesome right there. Your constant need to bring the kid down for no apparent reason other than accusing him of lying about where he has such "skills" from. It is common sense, yes - but this is a 12-year old kid, and to be fair "taunting" and "aggro" is incredibly important in WoW. He could actually have the theory of his actions from there... How do you know?

And why the fuck would a 12-year old boy lie about where he... Seriously? Are you saying that? I can't even finish that sentence, it's that ridiculous.
Excuse me while I chuckle...

Absolutely everything you said can be turned around, buddeh. You're limiting this kid and bringing him down simply because he's 12, while it's entirely possible that a 12 year old kid could be mature than, say, you! It's all dependant on the life he's lived and how much he's devloped thus far.

Also, as another side of the story, it could be a reporter trying to skew the story into being about videogames; we really don't know that much.

A Moose once bit my sister ...

No realli! She was Karving her initials on the moose
with the sharpened end of an interspace toothbrush given
her by Svenge - her brother-in-law - an Oslo dentist and
star of many Norwegian movies: "The Hot Hands of an Oslo
Dentist", "Fillings of Passion", "The Huge Molars of Horst
Nordfink".
Sorry about that, this person has been sacked.

OT: Well thats damn impressive. And that kids lucky it wasn't a bear. Playing dead doesn't work on bears. Well it does, if you can continue faking death while he's chewing on your head to see if you respond.

One moment you say he's an idiot, next you tell me not to write off his intelligence, and that he's crafty and savvy.

Make up your mind, instead of switching your opinion in order to disagree with me.

Hey, I have rights...

Isn't curling up in the fetal position still one of the best things you can do to survive a bear attack, though? And I imagine it might also depend on the species of bear.

I'm using hypotheticals. He's either making shit up, or he's simply an idiot. Not much else too it...

The word 'may' is key, there. I'm not saying anything definitive. As I said in my response above, I'm using hypotheticals.

I raised my eyebrows when I saw the phrase: -from skills he learned in WoW, but then I read more into it. Damn, that kid sure knew how use his brains. If he ever tells the story to impress a girl, he should probably leave out the WoW part :p Not to imply that WoW players can't get girlfriends, that is a ridiculous stereotype. Why am I typing this in white?

That kid got extremely lucky. But good for him, I'm sure he'll be flaunting that one for a while.

I know this is more common sense than anything involved with WoW, but I'd rather see video games see positive light for once, so I'm just gonna' roll with the story...

In other words you find this scenario quite plausible:
Siblings, a boy and a girl, walk in woods.
Moose approaches. The kids do not notice it.
Eventually the kids intrude upon the territory of the animal, which then moves to attack.
The boy, seeing the moose aiming for his sister, starts flailing his arms in a desperate and brave attempt to make sure at least his sister makes it to safety.
The moose turns its attention towards the boy, while the girl flees.
The boy plays dead, and is eventuelly left alone by the moose.

Boy is then, shortly after, interviewed about the events. Before the interview, though, he has be pondering how to turn the whole incident into a public-relations boost for videogames in general. Even though he is only 12 years old, he is chairman of his high school debate team, and has been awarded an honorary Ph.d. in "Public Relations" and "Ways to Manipulate the Media" by the nearby university for smart children.
Having pondered this, he decides to sit and smile with the reporter, calmly stating that he had his knowledge from his favourite video-game, World of Warcraft, instead of a Hunter's Survivors Manual - which is the actual truth! The kid had been reading that book that same day, so it was quite an enormous coincidense!!

LMAO. Dude the PR line was hillarious. If you seriously believe that, then you ain't much brighter then you claim this twelve year old to be. IF he lied AT ALL about this it would be because his parents have threatened to take WoW away or something. NOT for a PR boost for a company blah, blah, blah. That's rediculous.

So in your mind he is either stupid or on a crusade FOR WoW. Who cares what this kid attributes his actions to? Why are you so worked up about it? Sounds to me like you are on a crusade against WoW. And seriously underestimate the common sense on these boards.

Don't get me wrong, I think WoW is a blight on gaming personally. But good for this kid.

You mean like he 'may' have told the truth? Which I personally find more likely than the odds of your "may".

Well if you encounter a bear, its best to just back off very slowly.

If your attacked, well the fetel position may be the best, but a bear attack is a bear attack, and it will most certainly mess you up good no matter what you do.

In other words, when traveling through bear territory, always carry a gun, or travel in large groups, preferably large groups that carry guns.
