It doesnt matter what age you are or even if it's your own body. Placing the pictures on the internet makes her guilty of distributing child pornography.

P.S. What is a 14 year old kid doing taking nude pictures of themselves?
14 year olds can sometimes do stupid things. I remember doing stupid things when I was 14.

I feel bad for that girl-- she's just a kid. I doubt she'll be charged, though. Any two-bit lawyer could finesse his way out of this.

If you'd read the article you would know.

That is not a good way for people to think, and we need a way to teach kids it's wrong - not necessarily by making it a criminal offense, but there needs to be someone to step in, because parents simply cannot be trusted to do the right thing.
Yes, yes they can. In fact, parents are the ONLY people who can be trusted to act correctly in such a situation. Official bodies are restricted by how black-and-white the law is.

Am I the only one that has noticed the (technical) irony that if she was registered as a sex offender for this, despite being a schoolgirl, she would have limits placed on how close she can be to schools?

So if I have naked pictures of my 16 year old girlfriend I'm a paedophile under that country's laws, wow that case is seriously buggered up.

She should be in serious trouble as a deterrent to children partaking in this sort of behavior, that said this still seems pretty heavy handed to me. I'm not so worried about underage whores as I am pedophiles.

I find it funny how the police, apparently, have nothing better to do than harass people.

I really don't even want to think about the implications of any of this. The kid, while being stupid, is now already totally embarrased having been revealed publicly. There's no need to punish her further.

Stories like this make me lose my faith in society. Then I remember that I never had any faith in society so I have nothing to lose.

I feel ashamed to have recently turned 14....

I feel more ashamed that this seems to be normal practice around here (Ireland and no not on myspace).

You know what though? I'd say it is more or less the culture that effects it, as said it seems to have become common practice. Don't know why, maybe parents just aren't teaching values anymore.

The Government.

Sure, we have disasters, crimes, and financial crises causing us trouble, but hey. We caught this 14 year old on the internet!

Becoming a registered sex offender? Really? You're going to destroy her life based on one (admittedly stupid) mistake?

Funny thing though. Reading through the article, it mentions not once was the girl shown engaging in sexual acts. It uses weasel words like: 'explicit nude pictures' 'sexually suggestive poses'. And like a lot of people, and even in this thread we take that to mean the worst.

On the one-hand, people have somewhat rightly noted that, one really shouldn't be distributing photos of themselves in this way, especially if you're underage. Moreso because there are people out there who will take advantage of this. But at the same time, seem to be propagating the idea that nudity is criminal, that, beyond when you're born, or when you're in the shower, that being unclothed is one of the worst things you can be.

And any depiction, whether through a drawing, a photo, a video is also morally reprehensible. And make shallow implications that anyone who does must therefore must have a low opinion of themselves. Which I find oddly laughable, since they're not the one's condemning their own naked bodies as something perverted.
