A New Hampshire elementary school was placed under lockdown Friday after a 14-year-old student shot himself in the face in the cafeteria with about 70 students present, NBC station WPTZ reported.

Cheshire County Attorney Peter Heed said Friday the gunshot was self-inflicted. The shooting happened around 11 a.m. at Walpole Elementary School in Walpole. The boy was hospitalized, but his name and condition were not released. No one else was hurt, according to WPTZ.

"Our hearts go out to the family of this young man and our thoughts go out to all of the students that were in the school at this time," Heed said at a news conference. He did not say what kind of gun the student used or where he might have obtained it. He also did not offer any information on why the student shot himself.

Well, this is starting to become a fairly common occurrence. Wonder where he got the gun from...

inb4 arguments on gun regulation.

Anywho, let's all make wild guesses as to why he did it.
Maybe he did it because he felt that the it was the only way to make anyone give a fuck about him? Or maybe he thought that no one would give a fuck anyway and that's why he did it?

This kid has a lot of guts to actually shoot himself in front 70 students.

I don't know how the school system works in the U.S., but I'll assume that this kid just couldn't stand repeating the same grade again and again. There isn't much that can be said that hasn't been said, unless more information is released, we will be sitting in front of our computers, speculating what actually made this kid shoot himself.

i saw the title and thought AMERICA lo and behold it was.

never happens in the civilized country i live in cause we aren't a bunch of dumbshits wit a government dumb enough to follow a dated law that lets any idiot get hold of a gun.
Yes, because 14 year olds can purchase handguns in the United States! In fact, we just hand em out on Fridays! Why, I probably have twelve or so just sitting on the sidewalk still from last Friday's pistol giveaway! Nobody wanted 'em cause every American owns about thirty by now, don't ya know?
its not about what age you are its about stupid people stupid laws and a dangerous country.
The way you talk, I thought it was about talking out of your ass and posting flame bait. Imagine that.

At least he had the decency to off himself where he'd be found and cleaned up quickly. I hate it when people kill themselves in their own homes and stink up the place for a few months. It's just so goddamn inconsiderate.
D'you guys think I have a shot at being a world class comedian with my clever, witty, smart, intelligent comedy?

Thomas jefferson gave americans guns to fight possible government corruption, and look now they're shooting each other for ridicolous "who owns this street" kindergarden.

The fact that a 14 year old can even get access to a gun without close parental supervision is further evidence of the insanity caused by the bizarre love affair between firearms and the American people.

and the trolls have come to spit on tragedy.

i hate the internet some times.

From what i read the kid had some relationship issues with a girl. he also is still alive but in critical condition.

I was unaware you could be 14 and in elementary school. Regardless, this is kind of disturbing. That isn't something anyone should have to witness, let alone 70 kids.
I don't know, maybe he had a younger cousin or brother at the school.

That one twisted part of me wonders if the incident was proceeded by the phrase "you kids wanna see a dead body?"

I'm a bad person...

The only two things I first thoughts were:

A. Poor bastard.

B. Stupid fuck who enabled him to get a gun.

At least he didn't start going around taking other people out with him...but it's a sad state of affairs when "at least it wasn't another school massacre" becomes a plus-point of any news article.

EDIT -

Oh wow, another unstable kid killed themselves. Whatever.
So you chose to post in a topic about the death of a kid, just to show how unfazed you are by it?

Christ, I wish I was as cool as you.

Might be a really mean thing to say, but the first thing I heard was Eddie Vedder saying "Jeremy spoke in class today." Though, seeing how he was 14 in Elementary school, that probably provides a lot of answers.
The school seems to be a elementary and middle school, because from what I can tell there were 7th and 8th graders there too.
