Admittedly you're probably right. I just hate seeing stories like this that I always convince myself are never going to show up in the news again... I'm going to go watch some funny videos on youtube so I don't turn emo now.DarthFennec said:I don't think it has anything to do with him being young or materialistic, I expect he's just not right in the head. Chemical imbalances can do this kind of thing to a person. He doesn't need jailtime, he needs mental help and some pills probably.
I think most people are defensive about it (me included) because of that silly psychiatrist on fox news. Not to mention there's been a shitstorm about it for ages now. You just know when this hits the major media networks there's going to be some really silly drama and claims going around.Toriver said:But I want to comment on the reactions I'm reading. Aren't we jumping the gun a bit on thinking this is a "Gamez R 3bil!" story? TBH, I haven't seen anyone actually blame the game for this yet, and to panic over it now comes off to me as a bit overly defensive. Cool your jets, people. Save the media outrage for if/when someone actually does make a violent game-violent behavior connection with this. Then go crazy.
Fear's great when you want immediate control, but the tactics that induce fear also induce hatred. What happens when you become more hated than feared?emeraldrafael said:Not how I was taught, but I grew up in a military family.Eico said:Fear and respect are not interchangeable.emeraldrafael said:Hunh... So I'll say this. I can wonder what went through his head when he htought about this. Also, this is why we need to hit our kids. If they dont fespect (fear-respect) you, this is what happens.
EDIT: Quoted myself for some reason... Fixed.
I know exactly what you mean. But this kind of shit will always turn up. There have always been things like this, and there's no reason for that to change now. I wish it were any other way.BoredDragon said:Admittedly you're probably right. I just hate seeing stories like this that I always convince myself are never going to show up in the news again... Actually a lack of video games caused violence.Tharwen said:Fuuuck...
Wow. I feel both enraged at and sorry for him at the same time.
[sub]Also, can we leave the imminent 'games don't cause violence waaah' comments out of this thread please?[/sub]
Actually It's far less than 1% of kids. It's probably less than a 10th of a percent.EGtodd09 said:FUCK my generation, seriously, it's just embarrassing to be a part of it. Also, with shit like this happening increasingly often, no wonder people think video games cause violence, but really i think it's just 89% of my generation are fucking retarded, and 1% kill their parents over video games.
That isn't necessarily true, video games are one of the most mentally addictive things in the world and what is worse is that they are easily obtainable by children or confused and angry teenagers. Plus he would have been playing violent games a lot which probably put some of those bad ideas in his head, I think if he had lived without a console he wouldn't have been so explosively angry and so impulsive.gunheads said:This kid had obvious mental instabilities, If it wasn't over this, It would of happened over something else. Wow keep talking like that and you're going to banned, it really isn't that bad. Maybe it is more like 5% of your generation in your country are retarded, but I doubt the rest of the world, and I highly doubt they are retarded. Stupid, yea maybe, retarded definitely not.EGtodd09 said:FUCK my generation, seriously, it's just embarrassing to be a part of it. Only in very rare cases do games cause this, I know first hand, I have autistic close family who play alot of violent games, There fine, infact probably more stable from them, When he gets angry He goes and plays GTA for a while and He's good. But to beat your mother to death with a hammer and cremate her in an oven while still alive, No game has ever shown that level of murder, So getting ideas from that is not really right. And games being mentally addictive is more in the eye of the beholder, Some people find them addictive, alot dont. I do play alot of games, being honest, But I never feel the need to miss sleep or skip work to play them, Addictiveness varies by person in my opinion. People get addicted to endorphins released by there brains to stimulate pleasure, not the item/game.Dimensional Vortex said:That isn't necessarily true, video games are one of the most mentally addictive things in the world and what is worse is that they are easily obtainable by children or confused and angry teenagers.
