17 years into the future and Patroclus as the main character. Soul Calibur V not looking cool.

I was really exited when I heard Soul Calibur 5 was officially anounced but after reading some information about it, I was let down. My main problem is that it takes place 17 years after the events of Soul Calibur IV. This puts almost all Soul Calibur characters in their 40's. Seriously man, Taki is my main character and a 46 year old version of her is just uncool. Another thing that's really bugging me is that the main character is Patroclus. Nobody cares about him. Sigfried was cools as the main character. At least with Sigfried, the blonde hair was believable. I dont think the gaming industry needs 1950's aryanist depictions of mediterranean people. I hope they change this because this has really put me and pretty much everyone else I know off the game.

Are they going to have any guest characters? And are they going to have something like the Weapon Master mode from Soul Calibur II? I ask 'cause I recently picked up Soul Calibur IV and I'm bored of it already.

I dont know dude. They haven't actually released any information on the game modes. What I have heard is that there will be guest characters from Namco games.

Don't worry, knowing Namco, the only thing that will have changed about Taki is her bosom. Considering it's been growing with each game since the first Soul Edge even though she already was an adult in that one, bloody hell.

Wait... People actually care about the story of Soul Calibur? That is news to me... I want to see more gameplay footage though. The Soul Calibur series is one of the only fighting game series that I play. I am looking forward to see what they are changing, in addition to the new characters and new character designs. Also, the answer to the burning question that we all have: how much will Ivy be wearing in this game, hmm?

Soul Calibur games have no story to speak of, so I really don't see why it makes a difference that the "main character" is no longer Seigfried.

The only way the time jump will make a difference is if they actually change the characters to look older, which is quite frankly rather unlikely given their track record with games like Tekken.

Pretty much every character in the series has been touched or tainted by some sort of godly power, so I doubt there's much worry about aging. Besides, Namco has never had any issue with replacing an old character with a clone if the old character is for some reason no longer viable. I'd be more worried about what they actually said about the gameplay.

I'm not going to pass any judgement until I at least see a trailer. But as I said in the announcement thread, if theres no Mitsurugi, there will be a much lower chance of purchase on my part.

As for the change in lead, I like it, the series needs something fresh (but it also needs Mitsurugi). I also hope they kill the 'secks appeal' and jiggle physics.

The only thing I'm worried about was reading that they're going for a faster pace with only shortswords (or equivalents, I guess). This to me is a gamebreaker far worse than who the main character is. Sure, he does look like a douche, but how much is that really gonna affect you while playing as your main?

I don't care much of Soul Calibur canon and yeah, I know that is a cool little story, but there over a 100 caracters in that mess that don't add up nothing.

And if I do have a complain about SC5 is that look like shit, I know its just a trailer, but a trailer is suppose to hype me and not look like shit.

Considering the trailer comprised of scenes from SCIV and only brief looks at the new Soul Edge and Soul Calibur designs and a 3 second glance at Patroklos, I don't think I've seen enough for me to pass any sort of judgement on it.
While I do enjoy the overall story of the series, since the third game, it's really been about the character creation for me. If they improve that and give us an updated weapons master mode (featured in SCII) that features playable created characters, I'll be extremely happy.

Uhh, wait. Soul Calibur...has a main character? I thought it was like Baccano, with everybody's contribution making the whole.

My three mains (I know it's weird to have more than one) are Seung Mina, Taki, and Mitsurugi. I'm pretty much fucked. As you know, Mitsurugi and Taki are both 29 in SCIV, and Seung is 23. I guarantee you they won't even put a woman in her 40s into this game, so I'm only going to be using old Mitsurugi.

That being said, I've been a little distant from the series since SCIII. II was the best one, the three characters I mentioned were basically perfect.

I mean Kilik is a MOVESET CLONE of Seung Mina! And they change Seung Mina's moveset? Piss off.

And random question: You wouldn't happen to be Mediterranean would you? I'm just curious.

Hwang/Yungsung, Rock/Bangoo for examples. It looked like they were gearing up Amy to do the same thing, and since Sophitia and Cassandra's children are in this game...

Are you kidding me?
Patroclus looked AWESOME in the preview art i saw.
Whats the matter, his breasts not big enough for you?
I don't remember much about him but im gonna give the game some time to come out before i jump to conclusions.

Implying you wouldn't want to see an old Grizzled Mitsurugi still kicking ass and taking names with White hair and more scars.
I think he and a few others will be fine.
Characters like Astaroth and Yoshimitsu are pretty much still in because they don't age, but i feel this is a good chance to start fresh with new characters, before the old character's wardrobes and movesets get reduced even more.
Yes the wardrobe bit is what pisses me off the most.

Stop looking too deep into it

look at the tits instead, that's where the dev's effort goes.
And I will not argue with that... It is well placed effort...

One thing, Ivy... yeah, exactly.

But in all seriousness, each Soul Calibur has been improving in leaps and bounds. (Unlike Tekken and Street Fighter IMO)

I just hope to see these 3 things improved upon.

- Gameplay depth (It was deep enough in IV, however. It could always be better)

- Graphics (IV blew me away, so I hope they amp it up even more)

- The customization of characters (No stat limitations like in IV)
