- The World/Inferno Friendship Society 'The Anarchy and the Ecstasy' - Every album from this band has been amazing and this was no exception.
- Andrew Jackson Jihad 'Knife Man' - Lyrics of the year, quite simply. They've clearly evolved from their debut days while still retaining the raw energy that made me like them in the first place.
- Larry and His Flask 'All That We Know' - Much like AJJ, these guys have come a long way. They'll probably get overlooked by many, which is really a shame.
- Lemuria 'Pebble' - Took a while, but when it did grow on me, Lemuria's 2011 album got an illegal amount of plays from me.
- Star Fucking Hipsters 'From the Dumpster to the Grave' - Stza's newest album got released to yet another hail of "sellout" and "too poppy" claims from 12 year old suburban punksters. Great album. A They Might Be Giants cover with Yula Be'eri, special appearance by The Coup's Boots Riley and an amazing closer are among the best tracks this year.
-Wire 'Red Barked Tree' - How many great bands from the 70s are still out there going strong? I can count them with one hand myself and Wire is one of the few. Red Barked Tree is no Pink Flag, but it does sound fucking amazing.
All in all 2011 was not the greatest year for music. Especially in the punk area. Lots of meh releases and revivals/reunions by bands that should've stayed buried. I did overlook some albums, and the hip-hop I do listen to had a good year in 2011. Money constraints are to blame.
Nevertheless the above albums were the cream of the crop. Here's to an awesome 2012.
EDIT: Did a bit of editing. Forgot 'Pebble' was released this year. Elaborated on SFH and Wire.
