I think the OP should change the title to the return of the Japanese RPG (and Japanese gaming as a whole) The western rpgs really are PC RPGs only Mass Effect 3 is a real console RPG imo.

As for japan there really is some great games due out in the next 6 or so months. With that TGS expo lineup anybody who says the quality of Japanese games compared to true western games is just wrong.
I don't understand your last sentence. Anyway, JRPG's have been horrible this generation so any JRPG's coming out no longer get an automatic stamp of approval. Remember when Blue Dragon was gonna be great? How about Final Fantasy XIII? Eternal Sonata, Infinite Undiscovery, Last Remnant, Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World, etc...

Well, Final Fantasy and the Tales of series has been here all along and so has the Mass Effect series. Witcher 2 and Diablo III are PC ports.

This gen has been starved of good JRPG's and most of what you listed aren't JRPG's. There has been no shortage of WRPG's.
^^

Though the FF and Tales series have been in decline since their PS2 days with FF hitting rock bottom last year and digging themselves even deeper with 13-2.

Calling Mass Effect an RPG anymore is really stretch of the label.

Though, if you're looking for good JRPGs these days you seem to have to go to the handhelds.

Well, I was just responding to the OP who mentioned the Mass Effect series. You're right though, Mass Effect 2 was more of a shooter and not a very good one at that. Mass Effect 1 was fantastic, well it was fantastic on the PC.

This Gen has had more amazing console rpg's than the last gen. I assume you're only counting the Wii, 360 and PS3 in this and not the handheld consoles.

Just on the jrpg side we've had Enchanted Arms, Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Eternal Sonata, Tales Of Vesperia, Tales of Graces, Resonance of Fate, Final Fantasy XIII and XIII-2 etc, let alone all the Western RPG's like Oblivion, Fallout, Skyrim, the Mass Effect trilogy..

Hardly dead, and probably more quality titles than last Gen's

FF I'll admit hasn't been great since IX but the tales series continues to go from strength to strength. Vesperia was a brilliant game

It depends what sort of JRPGs you like, im mostly talking about action rpgs like Dragons dogma and dark souls, for true JPGs ild say the Wii titles like that Gibli game are shaping up good.

Disgaea 4 doesn't exist now? My, how brutally Fuuka will beat some of you...

Oh and Dark Souls and Dragon's Dogma are not Jrpgs, they're action games with rpg elements in the style of Wrpgs made in Japan lol.

Persona 4: The Golden. Also FFXII-2 isn't really something to be hyped.

No mention of Skyrim, or for that matter Oblivion/Fallout 3/New Vegas? I am disappoint.
Because he knows that calling an Elder Scrolls game a "console RPG" is a death sentence >:p
Yeah, only "360 rpg" works for Skyrim :D.

Console RPGs had died? Well, bugger. Guess we'd better hold a funeral. I hope someone told them I loved them for me. I was too busy playing them to know they had died.

So, let me get this straight. Its because the OP isnt aware of all the Console RPGs that have came out this generation that this generation is devoid of RPGs?

Just to add a couple that seemingly have yet to be mentioned,

Demon's Souls
Dark Souls (well it should be if demon is any indication)
Lost Odyssey
Fable 2
Fable 3
Risen
Divine divinity 2: Ego Draconis
Xenoblade (if the hype is to be believed)
(also technically you might be able to get away with considering bioshock in here too )

And thats just to add onto the list already built up. Seriously OP, expand your horizons.

Nobody has mentioned Dragon's Dogma (Or have they?), because that game looks like a damn good reason to look forward to next year.

I want Persona 4 on PS3 (Or can I get that already? Please tell me)

Also don't mention Skyrim or etc, thats 2011.
