There seems to be a large amount of Australians and Englishmen on this site and chances are some have a passing interest in this historic test series.

I for one love cricket with a disturbing passion and am wondering the feelings around the start of the series?

Feel free to bicker and contemplate around the teams and happenings throughout the first test.

Carn Australia!

Yeeeeeeah, cricket.

As a New Zealander, I'm not sure if I'm meant to hate the Aussies or the English more. You can imagine the inner turmoil.
I lived in England growing up though, and they were always really smug when they did well. Also Stuart Broad is a prat. So, go Australia?

I know very little about the happenings in cricket. I know you lot had a kerfuffle among your players a few months ago, and they got sent to the naughty corner. And then England made it to the final of the Champion's Trophy. So I assume they're rather warm favourites at this point?

Oh nooooo.

I think its going to be a close series. England are on paper the stronger team but Australia have a good pace attack. There is a lot of new players in the Australian team so the batting is going to have be anchored by Clarke. If his back holds up anything can happen, if it fails then its game over. I have tickets for the oval and I hope its going to be the decider.

We seem to have started with more a whimper than bang. It's a slow start, but no nails in the coffin just yet. Still, it's shaping to be interesting, particularly since the crushing defeat of the Aussies by the British Lions last week. Hopefully it'll keep on the professional rivalry side of things, and we can expect a super awesome series. One where England win.

Damn this thread!

I was perfectly content to wait until I got home to watch the highlights of today's test, but this thread perked my curiosity and now I wish I hadn't checked on the scores. Not sure whether it's down to the Aussies bowling well or us batting badly, but we're getting slaughtered lulling those colonials into a false sense of security.

Safe.

Now I find myself wondering if Canada even has a cricket team.

If we do, I've never heard of it. I guess cricket is to us what curling is to the rest of the world.

Im scottish so here is a list of things that i would rather do than watch cricket:

Watch paint dry
Watch the grass grow
Chew off my own testicle
Catch aids
Have sex with a porcupine
Go diving with sharks or run through a tiger enclosure wearing lady gagas meat dress
Have mike tyson bend me over and sucker punch me in the anus
Have bruce lee kick me square on in the testes
Drink rat poison
Listen to justin bieber

Seriously though cricket is the slowest most boring game ever and it goes on for days and has a really complicated scoring system. Not to mention its the shittest prize its not even a persons ashes (which would be significant) its the ashes of a burnt cricket post

Oi Susse! I'm from India, I'll have you know, and I watch cricket too! Give us (and other countries) some love as well! >:-D

Haven't been following cricket in a while though, so I'm not sure how it stands. I believe that I'm split between the UK and Australia this time around though.

Captcha- "Do you play NFL fantasy games?"

Er, fuck off captcha? =D

You have had a cricket team since 1892. Canada is an 2nd tier team, playing the likes of Scotland and Bermuda most of the time.

Aussie Aussie Aussie!

I watch it sometimes, not too often but the ashes I'll watch.
A few of my friends love it and play it so they roped me in some time ago.
It's also always fun to rub it in the faces of my english friends when we win against them.

Forgiveness please!

Good end to day one Siddle was on fire and Chris Rodgers seems to be playing like he did in his last test call up way back in 2008.

He made 19 runs that test.

You must be very flexible (or very old).

Not sure about this one. Depends, are we talking about one song, or having to listen the entire duration of a cricket game?

as a welsh person it will be fun to watch the English inevitably lose at a sport they are supposedly good at

1. Neither it was just a horrible thing i could think of
2. One song the one that goes "baby baby baby ooooooh"...........for the whole duration of the cricket. It would still be a better experience

Im surprised you didnt pick up on the fact i would get a guy whos been dead for years to kick my nuts

It's not that I missed it, I just didn't feel being kicked by a rotting corpse would be that painful.

I'm an England supporter but Agar was brilliant. 98 on debut just wow. Perfect play, held his nerve under bouncers and just played his shots. One of the great moments of cricket

Ashton Agar! What a debut! He and Hughes saved our asses and broke heaps of records, absolutely fantastic to watch. It was almost as inspiring as Shane Crawford completing the Tour de Crawf tonight (Riding from Melbourne to Perth, 3600km, to raise money for breast cancer research).

Terrible captaincy from Cook, got nearly everything wrong. Strauss was far better at his field placement but Agar deserves full credit for that innings, looked like a young KP.
