I haven't seen any of the match but I have no doubt that it will be further evidence of the English renaissance in all sport.

Wasn't the Australian team meant to be moribund amidst claims for vast sums of money and all the urinals in the club house to be replaced with buckets of ice rather than any desire to train?

The fact that Australia's highest score came from a 19 year old with 11 games of first class cricket to his name somewhat supports the theory. Agar performance was brilliant but there was a 50/50 call on stumping when Australia was on 131. To be honest the I thought it was not out but the Australian on TMS thoughts it was out. England could have very easily gone out to bat with a 80 odd run lead.

Last week there was an article in the papers about why human beings are so much better at throwing things than apes. Humans can throw things faster, farther and more accurately. Then I noticed that a chimpansee throws things not unlike a cricket bowler would. Go figure.

But seriously, there isn't any real cricket competition where I live, but I've always found it to be an interesting, if utterly bewildering sport.

The Dutch have a reasonable nation side, they beat England in 2009. So there must be some clubs somewhere.

I have always had my suspicions the former England fast bowler Steve Harmison was a strategically shaved ape

My god! Waking up I thought the Cricinfo score card had gone insane.

Great stuff from Agar and Huges shit stuff from the rest; The Twelfth man Billy Birmingham is loving him on twitter.
Also Siddle is having a great test 9 overs for 8 runs.

I hate to tell you this but England after the first two wickets went down changed tactics and are now attempting to bore Australia to death. The current run rate is 1.96 an over, even the bad balls are only being hit for singles.

Still, it's shaping to be interesting, particularly since the crushing defeat of the Aussies by the British Lions last week.
The Lions may have won the series, but Australia finally sacked their useless fucking idiot of a coach as a result, so it was win-win.

as a welsh person it will be fun to watch the English inevitably lose at a sport they are supposedly good at
You know that the England cricket team represents Wales as well, right? The ECB stands for the England and Wales Cricket Board, England play some home games in Cardiff, and Welsh players play for England. I don't know any Welsh cricket fans who don't support England, it's their team as well.

As for the first 2 days of this series, it's been brilliant so far. One of the best things about cricket is I don't think there were any Englishmen out there who wouldn't have been happy for Agar to get his century. We'd want him to get out as soon as possible after though!

Saffer here. Quite the day of cricket. Ozzie collapse, Agar awesomeness, and the a Dhoni special to win the tri-series.

Also Punter retiring with 24k+ first class runs and an unbeaten century for Surrey.

Can't wait for more!

There's nothing like going to bed thinking 'oh boy, we're boned already', and waking up to find a 19 year old has made 98 on debut. Not sure how long the good news will last though.

Even that being the case it's still a bloody spell against even the most Bill Lawry like of batsmen.

Well I have to say the 3rd day went Englands way. They slowed the batting down and went all Boycottish but end with a 250 run lead. Broad should have been given out and it was shocker of a decision, but it averages out because of Trotts dismissal yesterday

It just goes to show what a useless captain Clarke is. He wastes a review on a not-really LBW instead of saving it for a bloody obvious dismissal.

I don't watch cricket, even though I'm an Australian. I like tennis better.

To be fair to Clarke, I think he was deliberately showing confidence in Watson's opinion that it was LBW. The issues within the team have played apart in Australia's recent performance. The West Indies in their heyday in 70s and 80's didn't get on personally and the current England team have had the whole KP crisis but they managed to overcome the problem. I think Lehmann might solve the issues within the team. That said Australia have handled the reviews badly this test in general.

I love cricket, but I'm not a fan of watching professionals on the TV. I enjoy playing, and I enjoy watching amateurs (just tends to be more interesting), and I'll keep and eye on the score of the Ashes...but I won't sit down and watch.

To be fair, that's all the captains in world cricket. They really don't seem to get that the DRS is not for marginal calls, yet they all seem to use it for fractional not outs.

And worse, if they happen to get the 50/50 decision right, the commentators say "That was a good use of DRS". No it wasn't! It's there to eliminate howlers, it's not a strategic review for half-chances.

I swear 90% of LBW reviews are marginal, they should trust the umpires, move on and wait for a decision that they know is wrong.

Hopefully the Aussies can fight back a bit here, would be nice to see our actual batsmen score some runs!
