It's not that bad, we'll be playing episodes for "Walking Dead: Season 2" this year =D

I see everyone has driven the point home enough.

That being said, the games mentioned weren't even big games to begin with. The only reason anyone has heard of them was because of how bad they were.

What really makes a year bad is either when a good game that was hyped ends up bad, or when there were no good games in the first place.

Some small indie games that no one heard of before are not going to bring down an entire industry for a year.

Its the second month of the year. Chill out dude. Even next month will have pretty much something for everyone. Crappy games have always existed. Rambo, Rekoil and Guise Of The Wolf were all from small scale dev teams that nobody had really heard of. Is that really all it takes for you to think this will best the second crappiest year in gaming? Do you decide its not worth going to the grocery store if you fall over on the way out the door?

Three bad games?!

One bad game I could see. Even two. But three?

We might as well just skip ahead to 2015. The year is ruined. =(

Well since Smash Bros. is supposed to come out this year, I have to say I disagree. However, I personally don't have too many anticipated games coming this year myself. Though Hyrule Warriors could come out so that is exciting. Mario Kart should be fun too, along with Titan Fall, Watch Dogs, and plenty of others I can't think of.

Apparently, Master Chief's voice said Halo 5 won't be coming this year, which I probably would have gotten. Granted that does not confirm it won't be out, but I'm actually hoping they will work on it longer to lengthen the campaign.

I will say that compared to early 2013, 2014 kinda sucks, but I'm sure it will get better.

Dark Souls 2 will release into the world in 2014. With all due respect, that statement automatically invalidates any claim that 2014 will not cause "gamer orgasm".

I'm going to blindly guess that the worst year was...1983. I mean, if there's so much shit being released that an entire continent says "fuck it" towards the entire concept of playing video games at home, that's a pretty bad year if it's not the worst.

2013 saw the release of: Ride To Hell: Retribution; Day One: Garry's Incident and Aliens: Colonial Marines. And yet that year gave us awesome games like Bioshock Infinite, Saints Row 4, Papers Please, Pokemon X&Y.

You can't judge a gaming year only on the number of bad games released.

Remember, back in the 8-bit era shovelware crap games were released by the truckload, just ask the Angry Video Game Nerd.

Nah man, 2014 is looking far more promising that 2010 turned out to be. There was like 2 good games from that year.

X by monolith the Crew and Tittan Fall are games I'm looking forward to. Its better then last year to me because they're weren't any arcade racers to look forward to.

Well I'm going to be ignoring most big releases for this year until I near completion on a game I've currently got in development. I don't have much time on my hands, and I definitely don't have time to play some of this year's more anticipated games, Dark Souls 2 being the only one I'd call myself actually excited for. Good year or bad year, it doesn't really matter much to me until I'm less busy.

Two reasons why this thread title is wrong: Witcher 3 and TitanFall
You know, I'm not exactly thrilled for Titanfall. It doesn't look bad (few things involving mechs ever are), but it seems to me like it doesn't deserve its hype. Granted, I haven't tried the beta, but from what I've seen it looks to be another "dumb fun" shooter along the lines of Call of Duty. I do see the appeal of games like that, but for me to play a multiplayer game for months or even years after its release, it has to have some sort of depth or meta-game.

Holy generalizations, Batman!

Easy, there. We're only approaching March, and there was nothing major planned in the first trimester of the year - except maybe for Thief. I'm sure you'll point me to the professional reviews but - eh. I'm having fun with it.

My point is that you're better off taking each year's cream of the crop for what it's worth, instead of hoping we'll have great year after great year.

Plus, if I may be so bold - your examples are a bit odd. Rambo: The Video Game? Really? You had that on your radar? It popped out of left field and you were expecting it to be worth something? As for Rekoil, well - Jim Sterling thoroughly thrashed it in one of his reviews. Bad games are bad. That's a given.

Guise of the Wolf, though, doesn't even surprise me. Greenlight is a giant Petri dish where absolutely anything, from the best indie game to date to a complete piece of crap, can be allowed to sprout. We're bound to see something like this happen again until Valve either closes Greenlight or slaps a curating system onto it.

I remember reading the initial comments during the game's pitch and shaking my head.

"Oh, cool, a werewolf game! I'd Greenlight this because *werewolves*!"

Nope. Never give your vote to a Greenlight project just because the theme strikes your fancy. Look at the presented evidence: if it looks like a first-year project or quacks like a one-man team with close to zero animation or level design knowledge - then it probably *is* a shameless cash-grab. The whole Totalbiscuit debacle only supports that fact. No company would be so aggressive in their defense of a mediocre product if they were willing to acknowledge their mistakes. All FUN Creators wanted was an El Cheapo line to our wallets. That was denied to them.

With that in mind, I had zero expectations for Guise of the Wolf, which meant I slept very well at night.

As a cure for your odd "shitty games are shitty!" case of grumpiness, let me humbly suggest the offerings in the latest Indie Bundle - plus Ikaruga on Steam, if you've got another ten bucks burning a hole in your pocket. Guacamelee! is immensely worth it, Giana Sisters is entertaining enough, and Antichamber deserves at least one solid playthrough.

Mentioning 2 indie games and a game we all knew was going to be crappy and got it confirmed every time a new trailer came.

Lots of indie games suck, lots of them are uninspired, the difference is that Steam is now shovelling them onto their platform so they're easier to find. The indie games aren't crappier or better than they were.

Now we can probably agree that 83 was the worst year of gaming, but we shouldn't forget that things wer eleading up to that point so we could probably say 82 was the second worst.

An assload of games that come out in the first few months of the year are just being dumped like Charms in an MRE. If you carry that shit with you into peak season it's bad luck.

Got some titles coming this year that look real good if you ask me.

Can't help but think you wrote this after watching Angry Joe's Rambo review.

Well, all the other game reviewers I watch are either thinking the same thing or believe that last year was so bad that this year couldn't possibly be worse.

You don't measure it by the crap that comes out, a constant stream of bad games get released on a daily basis.
You measure it by the good ones.

Just looking through the list of 2014 game releases on Wikipedia. Ok, so far it's been mostly DLC, indies and re-releases but that's January for you.

Thief comes out today and in two weeks we get Titanfall and Dark Souls II. Looking further ahead there's more games coming out than I care to list but to me it looks like it's going to be one hell of a good year for gaming.

I guess the only thing I'm looking for this year I guess is some more GTA V/O content. I'm enjoying the custom job creator (both making and playing custom jobs) and the other little bits they've released. Online heists should be fun.
I just hope that if they're going to ask $20 for DLC, this time they make it worth it. Something like a new island; adding the Vegas area would be cool.
