I think 2010 was worse. At least this year we got another Borderlands game.

I don't think 2014 was as good as 2013 or 2012 but I wouldn't call it disappointing.

I really enjoyed Shadowrun Dragonfall, Walking Dead season 2, Wolf Among Us and Wolfenstein. Watch Dogs was ok (I never pay attention to the hype so I wasn't as disappointed as most people). Just played Borderlands Pre Sequel which was ok. Haven't started Mordor, Far Cry 4 or Dragon Age Inquisition yet but I've got high hopes for them.

I think my biggest disappointment is that I've bought less indies than last year because the good indies have been obscured by the huge pile of crap Steam put up on a daily basis.

That's a nice pair of Rose-Tinted Glasses you've got there OP. What was so vastly superior about previous years that this year was a disappointment?
Nothing.
This year is basically on par with last year and all years preceding it.
Or at least the ones that had game releases.

Up and down year for me so far. I had some really great games I've played, some actually making me a fan of a series I use to hate.

Good

Wolfenstein: The New order- Over the top, action-packed, and just really fun to play. Paid almost full price and I don't feel ripped at all.
Warriors Orochi 3- Probably one of the best games I've played all year. Got me hooked on the Warriors series.
Samurai Warriors 4- See above.
Shadow of Mordor- Amazing, fun, and very deep with the nemesis system. I've sunk about 50 hours into it so far.
Tales From the Borderlands- Hilarious, action-packed, and something that dragged me in within minutes.

Meh

Destiny- Doesn't try anything new, but does everything very well. I've yet to hit max level.
Far Cry 4- They tried to make lightning strike twice. Everything is less fun a second time.
Infamous: Second Son- Fun, but not something that matches 2's greatness.
Murdered: Soul Suspect- Fun little detective game. Not something you should spend more than twelve dollars one, but well-worth that much.
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare- Most fun I've had in a COD game since MW2.
Dragon Age: Inquisition- I'm just not enjoying it.

Bad

Watch Dogs- Just got really boring really fast.
Assassin's Creed: Unity- Really boring really fast.

So going by my list, this year hasn't been too bad.

I don't think it's been a bad year, it's kind of subjective, for me it's been one of the best:

Sword art online hollow fragment
Tales of hearts R
Freedom wars

They're all vita games, and that's all I need at the moment.

I also agree that 2014 was bad gaming year

-Dark Souls 2 was a huge disappointment. after finishing it once I deleted it gone back to playing 2 amazing previous games. This game lost all of its soul and lacks perfection needed for its combat.
-MGR Revengance good god horrid camera that shows anthing and everything other than whatever you are suppose to be fighting / QTE / boss fights design all terrible
Might & Magic X: Legacy - terrible Legends of Grimrock knock off.
Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII - horrid piece of garbage
Banished - terrible
Tropico 5 - big disappointment with worse gameplay than previous games.
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 - good god how do you go from excellent first game to something like this.
Thief - terrible in all aspects.
Atelier Escha & Logy: Alchemists of the Dusk Sky - poor
Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes - is not a game its a demo that somehow got away with people charging money for it
The Witch and the Hundred Knight - maybe one of the worst games ever
Agarest: Generations of War Zero - terrible
Bound by Flame - somewhere in the unplayable controls region
Borderlands TPS - what was the point of this game? It does nothing better than Borderlands 2
Drakengard 3 - horrid combat
Watch Dogs - did we really need a reskin of Assassins Creed badly done at that
Murdered: Soul Suspect - wtf how can you screw up a ghost story so badly
Grid Autosport - once again a game that is worse than its predecessor
Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare - good god
Sniper Elite III - mission design is so bad that once again playing previous game is way more enjoyable
Sacred 3 - terrible and misleading
Risen 3: Titan Lords - omg so so terrible
Tales of Xillia 2 - once again worse than previous game.
Wasteland 2 - horrid box disarming simulator
Natural Doctrine - horrid
Alien: Isolation - my god I believed the reviews and agree that setting is great but the gameplay is terrible
The Evil Within - bad graphics horrid stealth no story no horror just gore and for some reason we still are moving and shooting like we are playing RE that was released in 1996
Dragon Age Inquisition - single player MMO with poor writing.

and then there is a very short list of decent games:
The Wolf Among Us - was overrated but decent
Wolfenstein: The New Order - surprisingly well made but same old shooter
Styx: Master of Shadows - decent
Divinity: Original Sin - surprising fun and original
Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor - decent open worlder but overrated
Assassin's Creed Rogue - same thing as previous game but at least no surprises and does everything well enough
Far Cry 4 - same thing as previous game but at least no surprises and does everything well enough

and then we left with good games:
Legend of Grimrock 2 - awesome
Child of Light - awesome fun and beautiful
The Banner Saga is great.

2 of which are pretty short. The only thing I havent played yet and that maybe decent is Dreamfall Chapters: The Longest Journey

Also lets talk about so called next gen consoles - where are the games worth playing on any of them? It has been over a year since their release and still nothing

PS: Diablo III: Reaper of Souls aka Diablo Ultimate Evil wasnt released in 2014 its just an xpack for D3 that was released ages ago

The only disappoints were the games that got delayed, although very few of the delays were surprising to be honest. And whoever even tried Destiny's alpha or beta knew exactly what the game was going to be yet they still bought it for some reason, I played it for 2 hours and was just completely done with it. The first year of any console cycle isn't going to be great. There were still some good games out there like Watch Dogs, Divinity, Shadow of Mordor, Shadow Warrior, Transistor. There's a bunch of games I haven't even got to yet like The Walking Dead S2, Alien, Sherlock Holmes (looks pretty good to me), South Park, etc.

Uhh... 2010 was the year we got the best hack and slash (Bayonetta) and best 3rd-person shooter (Vanquish) of last gen. 2010 was an awesome year just due to those 2 games alone.

While I can't say those are bad games, I don't think you can say it was a good year and only cite two games. Two games doesn't make a great year.

My two from that year was Just Cause 2 and Metro 2033. Both enjoyable, but I didn't think they were fantastic. So, between the two of us, we have 4 games, an average of 1 good game per 3 months. I'm still not convinced it was at least a passable year.

Snipping this business.
2010 also brought us Limbo and Amnesia: The Dark Descent, but again it's pretty slim pickings. Maybe 2010 stands out as somewhat crap because it's sandwiched between 2009 and 2011, much like how we're just taking a break after the somewhat good 2013 and we're waiting for the hopeful looking 2015 now.

I'm a Wii U/3DS owner, with a tiny bit of Steam and Gog.com on the side. I have had no disappointments. I'm willing to consider this a very polarizing year. Your mileage will definitely have varied based on what you were looking out for. I mean, if the one title you wanted to spend your preorder on was AC Unity, then yeah, I'd be pretty pissed too. I hear Dragon Age is quite good. I also grabbed the new Borderlands, and was honestly impressed at how fresh it felt. I'm still catching up on 2014 games. Got my Bayonetta 2 and Hyrule Warriors on the way, I'd like to grab that Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze from much earlier in the year. I'm quite content, really.

Is it? I guess so. Nothing's really made me feel compelled to buy a game on release this year (last year had The Last of Us). But I have no grounds to complain since it takes me about 6+ months to buy most games after release. Nor do I want to. I recently bought Soul Sacrifice Delta and I'm already forgetting how disappointing this year's big releases are.

There's also games like Mass Effect 2, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (my favorite racer of last gen), and Heavy Rain.

Fallout New Vegas came out, which I haven't played yet but really want to at some point as Obsidian wrote it as I HATE Bethesda's horrid writing. There were a few niche JRPGs like Resonance of Fate (it got released the same day as FFXIII for some reason, Sega is just awesome at marketing) and Nier (although vastly overrated by many, its story is not nearly anything that great).

There's also games that people loved that I hated like RDR and God of War 3.

Bayonetta is definitely my favorite game from last-gen and Vanquish might be my 2nd favorite game of last-gen (definitely top 5). 2010 had my favorite game of that gen, my favorite TPS, and my favorite racer; it was an awesome year. I don't think I'll have just one game from this year that stands out as just being so great. There's fewer standout games of 2013 as well.

Nope. Lots of games i enjoyed playing though some could be thought of as disappointing. But if your smart then you would read reviews etc online so why would your buy crap games? Funny that the games you mention for 2015 are sequels. lol.

I'd say it was also a disappointing year for me, but not for the same reasons as you. I mean, there's a decent amount of games that I want to get my hands on from this year, but the thing is, I'm broke. No money for new consoles, or new PC, and it's really starting to get to me since most of my friends are migrating over to the new hardware. Hell, the only game I got from this year is Destiny, and I'd say at best it's decent, but not fantastic. At least I got it dirt-cheap, so there's that.

The only reason I'm not disappointed is because I haven't expexted ANYTHING from AAA for The last few years. The one Advantage of this attidude is that I don't feel disappointed by bad games anymore, but instead delighted by actually good games. There was, however, a down side. Realizing what the AAA industry really is, seeing its unsatifiable greed and endless contempt for their customers, has removed something from deep within me and left a numb, cold feeling, where my heart used to be. So I guess it balances out somewhat.

I'm going to have to agree with you there OP. I was hoping The Witcher 3 would come out this year, but I'm happy Cdprojekt has more time to work on it.
