She doesn't want to teach the kid black history. Quite the opposite.CrazyGirl17 said:(Facepalms) Jesus Christ! Just when I think people can't get any stupider... while it's good this woman wants her kid to learn black history (even if is 2 years old), but there's doing it the right way... and then there's going too far! *SIGH* Shit Like this is why I think some people need a licence to be a parent.
I take offence to that, I live there. Of course that incident with the python also happened here, but still.Happiness Assassin said:You know, you wouldn't even have needed to specify her being from Florida for us to figure that out. Seriously, why is it always Florida?
I know its wrong, but sadly that underlined section was all that i needed to know. Florida seems to have a higher percentage of crazy than virtually anywhere else in the country, possibly the world.mrduckbear said:22 y/o whacko Florida ...
Well the mother kidnapped the kid. The father wasn't in on it and he has a say in the kids education as well. This isn't a case of the parents wanting to omit a kid from a class which while terribly racist shouldn't necessary be illegal.verdant monkai said:Extreme. But I guess they should have the right as parents to decide how to raise their child. This does seem unnecessary and a bit racist but they should be allowed if they want to.
Uh i gotta stop you there for a second, but as far as i was aware of it, wasnt it more that the US fought a war against Spain, before mexico was actually independant of it, gained some territory and when mexico later tried taking back said lost land they lost the war and even more territory? How is that "stealing"? Although im not american, that wasnt exactly covered as indepth during history class but thats essentially part of the cliff-notes version.MarsAtlas said:Its human history, but human history a lot of people continue to pretend never existed. You'd be surprised how many schools in the United States never broach things like:
-How the United States basically ended up stealing half of Mexico's land

I mean next you are going to tell me France selling its north american land to the US was equally stealing or something? Especially because the US wasnt allowed by the settlement agreement after the war for independence to actually increase its landsize by more than its current size, the french part they bought was bigger than the USA at the time, which was illegal and could have led to the British declaring the independence of the USA as null and void.
Oh sure, in theory, you could. I don't see it happening, though.Jasper van Heycop said:How about, you know, discussing "black" history like it is part of actual history? That's the way it's handled in every sane country I know.thaluikhain said:Yes, absolutely, Black History Month really isn't much of a solution. However, it's not fair to compare it to a good solution, it needs to be compared to a probable one. And it compares favourably to "don't bother", which seems to be the popular alternative.
It's not that "part of the population needs to be segregated and have a special month devoted to it", it's that "part of the population is segregated and so needs to have a special month devoted to it, in lieu of a better solution".Jasper van Heycop said:The idea that the history of a part of the population needs to be segregated and have a special month devoted to it, is kind of creepy when you start to think about it, right?
