One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
The Godfather
The Magnificent Seven (which is better than the Samurai version, mind you.)
Better than Seven Samurai? Hard to do better than Akira Kurosawa, I guess I'll just have to watch it then.

My top 3 movies ever are Hot Fuzz, Slumdog Millionaire, and Let the Right One In. Seriously, everyone needs to see all of those movies to see what real directing looks like.
If you want real directing look no farther than Federico Fellini, Stanley Kubrick, Sergei Eisenstein and Fritz Lang.

The never ending story (harharhar).

On a more serious note:

1. Miller's crossing.
2. Fight Club.
3. Being there.

Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone

Evangelion 2.0: You Can (Not) Advance

Let's tack on the other two yet unreleased movies as well. The first two definitely can stand on their own as films. Brilliant in every single aspect and proof that animation is not a juvenile form of entertainment like most would assume.

You could easily go your entire life without seeing a Hollywood movie and not be any poorer for the experience. That said, which movies you should see depends largely on your goal in seeing the movies.

Since as a late Gen-Xer I think more people need to get my jokes, references, and quotes, I'm gonna recommend:

- Spaceballs
- Wayne's World
- Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure

some people are never satisfied any ideas what you would have liked? i liked it very well just like grose point used romance and slight humor through middle and ends on massive pile up of his job on him ending in an epic yet stupidly great ending

Trust me, I'm the first person to put ideas over polish - but War Inc. seemed far too scatterbrained and tried too hard, but could have been great. That's what I got out of it.

Let's see...
1. The Lion King (It's just that awesome. Actually a lot of old Disney stuff is pretty good)
2. Where the Red Fern Grows (Although I recommend the book a little bit more.)
3. Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus (It's so bad that it's funny.)

It's a shame that I can only go to three since there are so many other good movies I could include like The Nightmare Before Christmas or El Dorado (The Disney One).

I can't in good conscious say any Chris Nolan film. I think one day he will get there, but not just yet.

Fight Club
Equilibrium

Having trouble with the last one.

I also can't say any QT movie in good faith, but I'd end up with Pulp Fiction or Inglorious Basterds.

If we take the question literally -- as opposed to the three greatest films ever -- I'd go with The Shawshank Redemption for obvious reasons, and then I'd go with Synechodche, New York along with My Dinner With Andre. The latter two speak directly to the way that we live our lives, and while perhaps not "best movie evar" material, they had a huge impact on me.
