that was when I started posting more frequently....I cant really remember much change... maybe the topics became more asinine?

OT: I think about the site and how I'm on it so much as second nature (its always the first site I go on) I'm beggining to think this place is some kind of addiction, but to be fair I havnt found a better forum
More or less summed up my feelings on the whole thing.

The Escapist Forums, I hate to say, have become like a car crash on the motorway to me. I don't want to look, but I can't quite look away.

Nowadays I can't stand a majority of this sites users and their attitude towards things. A friend of mine felt the same and he just stopped coming to this site all together.
Also this. I have a friend who stopped coming to post on here, too.

Holy crap what did I miss?
I get pretty seldom quoted from anything but I usually scroll through a lot of the material in threads and I don't find people more (passive) aggressive than before......

Well I just finished Batman Arkham City so I now have a degree in fighting bad stuff, I'll take care of this!!

For me, I'm probably burned out and I've seen two sets of users I knew quite well come and go in three years. All of the posters who used to post good stuff, people like Root of All Evil and SimuLord, have gone or gotten less active and I'm just seeing more and more people around who I want to punch through the monitor. Admittedly yes, not everyone here is like that, there's a few cool guys around and they post now and then but really, the rate of people I want to punch out-weights the people I don't at this point. Plus, as Zhukov said, you can hardly post anything without someone getting in your face about it and saying you're wrong. I know, it's the Internet blah blah blah but still, you used to be able to post something and not have someone get on your case about it.

But on the plus side, everyone who's posted in this thread appear to be cool guys so yay for the cool guys thread.
If I'm cool. Which I'm probably not. <_<

Nothing wrong with change. It keeps the forums fresh. Of course, I've not been around long enough to notice much change.
That said, the escapist is kind of old fashioned in many ways. It's one of the few places where the PC is still overwhelmingly thought of as the best gaming platform, for example. (I do own a gaming PC)

As an aside to everyone saying the forums are worse. They aren't they are more or less the same as they have always been. The only thing that has really changed is that there are less search bar and grammar nazis than there used to be. People still complain about the same stuff and rotate the hate as it used to be JRPGs, Halo, CoD, etc.

People are still and always have been argumentative and snipe at little things in posts, etc. The forum has massive patterns in how users act and how the new batch of user act. I don't mean to say you're wrong given the attitudes but from my view the Escapist has always had this venom you just didn't notice it until now. For the most part the forum is fine and isn't overly aggressive.

OT: Anyway congratulations for your landmark badge. I hope you stay another 3 weeks as long as you still enjoy it.

I think it comes down to the sudden influx of '-ism'/homophobia threads. Always seems to get people on edge and flare up debates and pure rage.

I could be wrong obviously, maybe it has something to do with...I dunno, [Sheogorath]CHEESE![/Sheogorath]

Can I swoop in to offer a positive comment in amongst all this misery and hostility? The forums for me haven't felt properly different for a year or so now. As far as I'm concerned nothing's changed dramatically, there's been no overbearing drop in thread quality and there's been no great leap in mass User aggression.

The point I actually came here to make was this: Congrats! It's a nice badge to have, isn't it? It's a lovely little sign of dedication, I think. I got mine in August/September time 2011. Here's a pint (or three) to however-many more years!

Also:

And despite the 36 months I'm only on about 3500 posts so that 10k post thread will have to wait for about 6 more years!
I'm so in the same boat as you. The rate I post I'm not due to hit 5K till 2016 so even the barest thought of 10000 posts on this forum is a long loooong way off.

If I'm cool. Which I'm probably not definitely am. <_<
Fixed that for you! I'm making something positive in this thread if it kills me :)

My days came with crushing loneliness and little to no friends, outside of the people in Forum Games which is why it's so high. Now I have a job, other commitments and friends away from here, I've slowed down. I worked it out, I had 60K posts by the end of 2011 so I've slowed down a fuck ton.

I reckon it's not so much the people posting as it is the massive amount of threads that get people worked up. Like Vault said up above, the topics on the forums used more asinine and not really about anything serious.

I feel like people have ran out of legitimate things to get upset about so now we just start threads to complain about every. Little. Thing. A woman didn't let you hold the door for her? FEMINIST ***** LET'S HATE ON WOMEN. A man stared at your cleavage? ALL MEN ARE RAPISTS YOU'RE PROBABLY RAPING SOMEONE RIGHT NOW YOU PIG. Strangest of all, any gaming-related topic that comes up --on a gaming website, mind-- invariably descends into a bunch of cynical arseholes pining for the 'better days' or decrying every move EA makes as the final nail in the industry's coffin.

That being said, I still like it here: there are some nice users that I recognise and usually you can find some voices of reason to strike up a decent debate with.

I think the soul-crushing misery train has long since jumped the shark in this thread...

I really haven't had an unpleasant experience here on the site, so take my naivety with a grain of salt

And just remember: No matter how bad things get, they can ALWAYS get worse!... If that helps at all >.>

It just seems that lately, hostilities and vitriol here have been pretty bad.

I mean, I can't create a thread thesedays without boatloads of passive-aggressive snark, no matter what the topic.
And I can't make a post, no matter how innocuous, without getting an inbox full of angry quotes.
I mean this in the least offensive way posssible Topaz but there's been several times this year when you have acted rather hostile in my eyes, such as the recent banned-avatar prank or back in the thread when the Bro-Injustice war was declared over. Have you considered the possibility that your own attitude sometimes colours your interactions with other users?

Personally, I think these forums have changed little in the last year, there isn't quite as much fun around as the peak of frivolity in mid-2011 but it's not terrible either. Most people generally seem decent as ever.

Eh, I was looking forward to the Neo badge but that probably won't happen. I can't believe how long I've been coming here as well, it's just such a useful news site and I still love Yahtzee's work.

I've been posting and lurking since 2008 and nothing has really changed, besides less use of the word troll and other annoying labels, which is only a good thing. I see jerks come and banned, and many users become sensitive over nothing like usual. It really hasn't changed. The first post I made here, I already got into an argument with someone because I made a similar comment (WTF). You've missed nothing!

Haha, thanks Knight Steel.
might I also remind you of the "quote" button

the "quote" button located at the top right corner of posts allows you to take a snippet of the other persons post (as often used in discussion/argument) it also notifys the other person that you have responded to them, as you'll recieve this as a message

also once you work out some of the code you can snip a quote down to save space (in a big/long winded argument) and save us from scrolling more than we need too (cuz seriously its kind of annoying)
