It's war, people signed up to kill and be killed, this is just part of the process.
To me it's only tragic when civilians get involved, i.e. Oslo is worse, far far worse.
I'm not comparing this to the Oslo attacks, but it's only tragic when it's civilians?
You sir, disgust me, you may not like that, but i don't understand how you can say that.
I don't say that often.

That's the bloody truth of war folks, people die.
Yeah, but usually not in this large a number.
We all know people die in war, but does that make it any less tragic than a murder, or even a string of serial killings?
And if thirty people had died due to a serial killer, you wouldn't be saying that people just die.
You're right but we aren't talking about Serial Killers we are talking about War. Your serial killer remake has no reference here.
Death is Death.
It's all tragic, and this is the largest single attack on US troops in the Afghan conflict.
And one of them was a civilian.

Let's be honest here, this would be much larger news if it was a terrorist attack from the outcomes of war.
To be perfectly honest with you, I have no sympathy for strangers who volunteer to go to foreign lands and participates in invasions for whatever reason. In whatever time in history or whatever country, this is just my own view be it not a popular one but it is mine. Now I wish to stop with this conversation before it gets all nasty.

I heard from /k/ that it was shot down with a Stinger, not an RPG. Sounds a lot more likely, if you ask me, since a heat-seeking weapon would be a million times more effective against a flying object than eyeballing the trajectory with a dumbfire rocket, though anything's possible. I doubt the press release would be willing to mention that the Taliban were using American weapons given to them by our government to blow up helicopters full of our most prestigious soldiers.

That relatively insignificant detail aside, the event is tragic, and my heart goes out to the families and friends of all who lost their lives.

Same, this is the last thing i wanted, but at least think about the troops families.
They didn't ask for this, and they didn't sign up.

Jesus, that's almost a quarter of all Canadian Losses in the conflict... in one attack.

You know, despite not wanting any more of my own countrymen to die, I sure as hell don't want any other country's men dying either.

The news over here said it was an "accident".

Then again, I never believed it was an "accident". I always thought it had been attacked. A multi-million dollar helicopter doesn't just malfunction like that.

And they say we have a "free press".
The Press is free. They're free to spread whatever bullshit propoganda they think will help their ratings.

This is pretty surprising though. What I'm mostly concerned about it this: Was this a coincidence? Did the Taliban just happen to attack a fully loaded Chinook transport chopper that just happened to be chalk full of Spec-Op marines that just happened to be from the same regiment that took out their figurehead? Or has US intelligence been compromised? Sure, 30 guys is pretty bad but if this were a proper war 30 guys would be a 'D'oh well' moment. Let's figure out how the Taliban managed to plan and execute an attack against a target that big before the shit really hits the fan.

I don't give sympathy for strangers, sucks their family members are dead. But this does not effect me in the slightest. this is just the way I am, the lives and problems of strangers do not enter into my mind or life.

Consider previous wars like Vietnam or WW2.The battle of Stalingrad in aprticular where over 2.000.000 soldiers died.

War has been toned down so much that even a number such as 30 soldiers of your own faction dying seems like much.

The word tragic implies that a group of innocent individuals was harmed, since the people getting killed were soldiers whom are basically killers in employment of the American government. It's hard to feel sorry for people who are somewhere they have no business being in the first place and have (probably) murdered a lot of people themselves.

I agree with you there.
War has got a lot, almost easier on our part, still, that means our attitudes need to change to suit this.

The scale has been changed.

How sad. Soldiers died.

Don't get me wrong, I could quote John Donne to show my sympathy, but you just kinda learn not to give a fuck, seeing as over 150,000 people around the world die every single day on our tiny little floating-rock-in-das-abyss.

So... rest in peace you poor, lost persons. Hope the end was quick and painless.

Addendum:
Someone from earlier on mentioned the Oslo incident and how it was far worse, and I just realised that I completely forgotten about it.
So much for all the sympathy I show for all them tragedies. Days go by like the wind, they're forgotten like nothing happened. It's just something that happens to other people. None of my business apparently.
Fuck, I really dislike meself right now.

You know i don't have time to reply to all of these, but just think about there families, and the one civilian on board as well.

Yes it is just a coincidence.
That's why i was asking.
And, can i ask how you came to this conclusion, was an official statement released or something?
