360 problems (wow, thanks for the non- help, Microsoft).

I've had my xBox 360 for nearly three years and its never broken down or had a fault yet. I find it strange that I've never had any problems given the horror stories I've heard and I play it for hours everyday. The best thing to do is to weigh up your options, you'll be getting the slim line in three weeks you say? Can you wait till then and simply trade it in as planned? I doubt many people will be buying the old xBox anyway some may be sold back to Microsoft for parts, it's not unheard of.

Ok, FUCK Microsoft.

I phoned them and they told me because my warranty is up it will be a paid repair that will cost me 90 euros. What the hell?

This was in INTERNAL hardware failure. I didn't break it. I take better care of my 360 than anyone I know. I never even move the damn thing.

The product was obviously not fit for the use in which it was intended. And I have to pay for the repair? I call bullshit. Fucking Microsft.
Having replaced 3 of these bastards by now, I am of the opinion that the huge sales numbers Microsoft is touting has more to do with the fact that people have had to buy more than one and not because so many people love 360s.

You've had a stretch of bad luck lately with your 360, my friend.

Hi guys

My 360 has gone a bit funny this morning, I was playing away fine for an hour or two and then took a break, went back and the following happened:

First it wouldn't read the game discs

Then it started to make wierd chugging, farting noises when I put the discs back in and pressed 'play game'. It sounds kind of like 'scchrrrr grrr schrrr chuurrr'

Then the entire thing froze up, and does so any time I start up a disc.

Anyone else experienced this? (I'd phone Microsoft but they're useless).

EDIT: Microsoft are now telling me I have to pay myself to repair thier shitty fucking faulty console that wasn't fit to perform its most basic funcrtion. That's just wonderful.
Do you run it standing up or laying on it's side?

Not an option for me man. I don't want some other poor sod to end up with a broken console.
Surely it'll be the company like Gamestation or Gamestop or wherever you trade it into that ends up with the broken console?

Even if I wanted to be dishonest and trade it in guys, it's going to be hard to do as now the dics drive won't even close. It keeps opening of its own accord as soon as I switch it on.

I'm actually considering just getting a PS3 at this stage.

I lie it flat, a foot away form the wall on a stack of 8 VHS boxes so none of the vents are covered. I give it a 15 minute break every 2 hours to cool down and install all games to the HD. Like I said, I take pretty good care of it! Stupid thing.

Given that you run it laying down... Yeah, you do take good care of it, that sucks buddy.

Ah right. You could prolly trade in everything else apart from the xbox and not have to pay much for it. Then you could play some ps3 exclusives. I know I'd prolly get MGS4, I've not seen that movie yet.

I sure have. And each time, Microsoft have been utterly useless and no help at all.

So now I have a choice to make... get a slim in 3 weeks or get a PS3? Tough call.

Well... Fallout New Vegas will come out on both systems, so that won't help you much in your decision making, will it? ;)

If you decide to get the PS3, and don't plan on picking up another 360 anytime soon, you could also trade in a bunch of games for your system.

But then you also have all those games for the 360.

Tough call either way.

If you do get a PS3, be sure to add me on PSN. And I'd be willing to bet Iridium would be happy to add you there as well. We'll all play Resistance together to get over that pesky Microsoft box.

I do the exact same thing and it scares me a bit, I bought it since Fall 2008 + Gears of War 2.

I hope I didn't jinxed myself..
i find this very amusing my old ps2 is bout 6 years old now.. i dont do anything with it played it for hours every day and once i left it on during a game for 5 full days because i didnt have a memory thing and it still works like a god damn panzer tank... hearing how you need to cool off a game after 2 hours seems like a very immersion breaking and irritating experience .... if iam to buy a next gen console id pick the ps3 .. never have i heard anything break in it.

well OP only advise i can give you is try to trade it in for te new model like you wanted or just outright buy a different one. sometimes you just cant beat fate.

There is a guy on ebay who buys broken xbox 360's from people and then repairs them, I presume to then re-sell them on. I don't know if you'd consider this as an option?

We repair 360 lasers at my work, we are mainly a computer repair shop, but we always have a 360 or three in. Problem is that if you replace the Dvd drive you can no longer use Live as it screws up the firmware for some retarded reason, which is why I stick to my PC.

We dont get as may PS3's in, but they do have their own range of issues.

Anything that takes a disc, the disc drive can fail. This has been true for over 30 years now. But I think Microsoft should take more responsibility for their actions instead of recouping losses during a recession by making the consumer pay to get unnecessarily faulty hardware repaired.

Get a spellchecker please, just a friendly suggestion.

And I was referring to the fact I handle my 360 with great care, I don't shut it every two hours or so, that's bullocks. I sometimed played entire days on it without a problem but I always make sure it has the space it needs.
I think he just got mixed up with my post where I said that it was something I did. It may not help at all but I figure it can't hurt to let it cool down a bit every once in a while!
