3D.....

I mean sure its good they they are trying somthing new, but really Ive never been particually "wowed" by it all it does for me is make the screen darker and reduce the aspect ratio (from what Ive noticed) at the cinema

and it doesnt seem to be going anywhere what with this push for 3D TV's and such (quite frankly Im surprsied its "taken off" at all)

that said however perhaps the tech will improve to be better and cheaper...and The idea of 3D for games is actually very cool and perhaps even a better aplication than films....in THEORY how ever

No, even if this one dies its just going to come back in some alternate form.

Must be said, this is the best 3D weve had so far though.

3D has come and gone several time throughout the years. I imagine it'll be sticking around semi-permanently now, but the majority of the phase will pass in a couple of years.

I hope it buggers off eventually. I've never seen any 3D media that actually adds anything to the experience besides that initial "wow" factor. Just seems like a waste of time, money and headache meds.

Yeah it will, the industry hoped that 3D would be the new color television, but it just isn't happening. I don't think we'll see attempts at mass 3D again until immersive holographic technology becomes affordable.

I honestly think that once film manages to make 3D work without the use of glasses, such as the 3DS, it will significantly improve. So no, it isn't going to go away. 3D has been around for awhile, and its only improving. Get rid of the glasses, and I'll actually embrace it.

Real answer: God i hope so. Stupid gimmick is stupid.

Smart arse answer: No, it's never going away. Look outside, it's right there, all over the place. Always there, never going away.

3D movies are here to stay. 3D games will be around forever if Nintendo has anything to say about it. They just seem so motivated to invest in things that don't befit the advancement of gaming in any way, shape or form.

3D will probably only go away when the next emperor's new clothes in technology turns up........and then get rediscovered about a decade or so later :(

I hope it goes away, but only because I have a pretty severe astigmatism that prevents me from seeing the effect of 3D.

If 3D becomes the norm, I feel that I'm going to miss out on a lot of new media.
hey its STAN!!!!!

i'd like it to go away, it's really stupidly unessisarily not worth it, maybe come back instead of as a cheap gimic, but in a couple years, when it's actually gotten somewhere, and be optional, not forced as the standard.

Some movies, like Drive Angry, are the reason 3D exists. They are meant to be flashy and show off and be mindless entertainment, and as long as people like myself and my father (corny movies like that are our father-son bonding moments) exist to appreciate them, the movie studios will pander to us. 3D has always been the ultimate goal, and thus it will never go away.

That doesn't mean there will cease to be great cinema, just that people like myself who don't always want to sit there and appreciate the way a film is artistically portrayed will have our own outlets. Look at it like gaming. Some people expect every game to be Mass Effect with a super-well-written story line and immersive gameplay. Others are just fine with Turok . I love both for different reasons. I play Mass Effect when I want to lose myself in a story, I play Turok when I want mindless violence. There is no reason a true connoisseur can't appreciate both.

Edit: Scripting is fucked up, I can't fix it, even though it is coded properly. Sorry about the weird italics.

Im not so sure its about "midless and fun flicks vs "ART"" no that has always existed

I mean its more the 3D to some of us it just doesnt seem worht the extra price because it simply doesnt enhance the experience at and even detracts from it

now there is a difference between a film being made specifically with 3D in mind and the 3D being tacked on afterward, but still films where its usued properly seem few and far between I wouldnt miss it really if it just went away all together

All I am saying is that there will always be uses for it. Drive Angry was a great movie, if you weren't stuck up about how it was never going to win an Oscar. For what it was meant to be, a mindless, thrill a minute, car chase and explosion-fest, it was perfection itself, and the 3D was awe-inspiring. I would easily rate it as one of the top five movies I have seen this year, on an all-else-being-equal rating scale. But I like kitschy movies with bad story lines and a plot line that lacks subtlety. It isn't art, it is fun. That is what 3D was made for. When they do it right, it is amazing. When they tack it on to turn a profit, then it suffers. But to wish that 3D would go away just means you aren't watching the right movies. I saw Hoodwinked Too with my friend and her children last Sunday. The 3D was well done, and flashy in all the right places. Never going to win an Oscar, but a great movie none the less. And the story line was humorous beyond reason.

The other option is that you are taking movies too seriously and have forgotten that they are a form of entertainment first and art second. (Chronologically at least...) Let yourself go, have fun, watch a bad movie simply for the sake of seeing a bad movie. (I suggest the original Death Race 2000, you will never think of Hand Grenades the same way again...)

Edit: I just finished a college level Introduction to Film course, and I appreciate bad movies even more, because although they lack the award winning artsy-ness, sometimes they have shining moments of pure awesome that would rival any work by John McTiernan, Steven Spielberg, or D.W. Griffith...

Well, people call it useless but whether it's a good thing or not we've seen an advancement in technology from it. For all we know this same technology might go towards creating holographic displays.

Considering it has all the problems old 3d had, I'd expect it to disappear just as quickly. But yes ... it will be back eventually. So there won't be a perminant way to escape it.

? like I said before this isnt about "fun movies vs "high brow" movies Im trying to make this clear

and Im not some pretentious person who takes movies too seriously, I too enjoy the odd silly flick like starship troopers or demolition man

I will admit how ever that I dont go to the movies to watch Films that dont get good reveiws because of ticket prices if I go at all I go to be wowed, like with inglorious basterds or Black swan (in fact my tatses have changed latley Ive been seeking out different kinds of films...probably because of Black swan and....well growing up) like I just watched Boys dont cry last night....amazingly sad film

anyway thats all beside the point [/B]

I mean I doubt 3D is going to go away and well its a step in some direction,

I watched Up, alice in wonderland and how to train your dragon, none of which really gave me the "wow!" factor which 3D promises, all I notice is the darker screen and reduced aspect ratio

I mean UP was a great film but didnt need to be in 3D,

HTYD was also great and mabye the 3D wasnt bad but honestly I dont remember

I watched Predators in the cinema normal and it was a blast which goes to show personaly 3D doesnt add anything for me except a more expensive ticket

I also saw Toy story 3 and inception without 3D

I mean yeah it works for some films and thats great...though I guess if given the choice no 3D for me
