I mean yeah it works for some films and thats great...though I guess if given the choice no 3D for me
Sorry I wasn't trying to imply you were being snooty, but I myself had that problem recently... I realized I was taking it all too seriously.

Like I said, though, sometimes you have to go into a movie expecting it to be less than Academy Award material, and get surprised by a low-brow movie. There are some great movies that look like losers in the theaters, but really aren't.

It takes a little faith and a lot of knowledge in your own tastes. I have seen well over a thousand movies since my first "R" Rated movie... (Hint, it was A Few Good Men back when I was 9...) I just know without hesitation which movies look good to me, and which will not be worth my time, and with few exceptions, I never see a bad movie... *cough* Skyline *cough*

I guess that does make sense, thease days anything I usually like it anyway because I know what I like and I do a little reasearch beforehand anyway (I mean thease things cost money)

I dont think being really into movies or even games is taking it too seriously

but obsessing and hating over every single detail? yeah thats taking it too far *cough*masseffect3*cough*

No, of course not. In fact, they will attempt to make a Lovecraftian movie in no less than seven dimensions.

(It makes sense in context.)

3D has been around for much longer than anyone seems to realise.
The 'House of Wax' movie with old time movie star, Vincent Price? Very similar to how movies nowadays cater to a 3D gimmick. Albiet in a much more hilarious scene featuring a ball and string.

Nah, it's a pretty good money-spinner at the moment. Might drop off for a bit, but more than likely it'll be back in about ten years.

i have never really felt that 3D adds much to a film. If anything it takes away the realism. The problem is people see in 2D anyways. The 3D in the films are more over the top than in real life.

Sure it is, as soon as they find the next gimmick they can charge triple for.
Ps. Please excuse my bad English, I am not a native speaker.

Okay, when I first saw the thread title I couldn't help but think "3D? It basically revolutionised games, giving them a whole third dimension!" Then it took me until about three posts down to realise it refered to 3D TVs...

Kinda shows how little an impact 3D TVs have made on my life. xD

Well, people call it useless but whether it's a good thing or not we've seen an advancement in technology from it. For all we know this same technology might go towards creating holographic displays.
Holographic displays would involve actual projection into a 3d space. The theoretical technology has nothing to do with current 3d image technology.

Arrrgghhh I don't like change .. I just want colour television and let everything stay the same. /sarcasm

I think it's good that they're advancing in 3D tech. take Avatar for example; in 3D it's more impressive than in 2D.

Once people stop seeing it as a gimmick and treat it like advancing technology then it will continue to get better. I'm actually quite shocked by the amount of people who treat anything new as a gimmick.

Sorry but no, people do not see in 2D unless they only have 1 functioning eye, hence depth perception and all that jazz.

3D.....

I mean sure its good they they are trying somthing new, but really Ive never been particually "wowed" by it all it does for me is make the screen darker and reduce the aspect ratio (from what Ive noticed) at the cinema

and it doesnt seem to be going anywhere what with this push for 3D TV's and such (quite frankly Im surprsied its "taken off" at all)

that said however perhaps the tech will improve to be better and cheaper...and The idea of 3D for games is actually very cool and perhaps even a better aplication than films....in THEORY how ever
No, people are stupid and easily fooled into believing it enhances the experience when in reality it does the exact opposite.

You can't say that though because one technology is underdeveloped and the other is theoretical/also underdeveloped.

What I'm proposing is a little broad and theoretical but the 2 technologies aren't that far apart at all, they're both about displaying 3D images. For all we know early holograms might be 2D and use 3D-image technology to enhance it.

In contrast I could be saying "advancements in medicine could contribute to advancements in antigravity", while that could happen it'd have to be some bizzarely unlikely scenario, those technologies are miles apart.

3D doesn't impress me until it is a full out hologram.
Also, when I can have the option of a personally controlled camera for any scene in a 3D movie/video game, I'll be pleased.

As it is now, it just feels kind of silly, and doesn't add too much enjoyment to anything...
