The 4chan community, as a whole, is one of the most degenerate groups I've ever had the displeasure of setting eyes upon.
The occasional goodhearted act, hardly redeems the abhorrent standard.

Sure they might have helped one fine guy out and I am really happy for him that they did.
But 4chan is still the biggest source of trolls on the internet.

Its not really that 4chan's evil. I mean, its a heart warming story and something not seen often in today's world. But 4chan itself isnt instinctively evil. Its just a massive forum board, so its bound to attract people who are less then repretitable just like the Escapist or any other online forum site will.
But yeah, I like this story. Its good to see people having Empathy and not Apathy for each other in today's world. And WAY better then I thought how this story was going to end (I thought there would be a dog missing in one of those pictures)

A bit too late to say "inb4 everybody makes a big show of acting surprised".
Too many people are willing to forget that the image Anonymous deliberately projects for itself is similar to the mask a jaded niceguy wears when life deals him one too many crap hands, or when he goes through life bending over backwards to please everybody and gets taken for granted. Anonymous, for the most part, is full of people who are empathic, kind and considerate in real life, and that often manifests on 4chan in very noticeable ways if you're willing to dig deep enough. Some of the most heartfelt, insightful advice I've ever received usually comes from a kind Anon distributing sincere wisdom regarding his/her experience with whatever the subject at hand is; all you have to do is sift through the (admittedly amusing) crap.
