I prefer some of the subtle racism to alot of the awkwardness that fan-subs online have.

Wait, is this some kind of ironic post about how people who complain about 4kids are themselves annoying anime fans, or is that crushing irony too subtle here.

Didn't noticed that actually. Like before I only made this thread after seeing that riceball thing.

A) 4kids isn't racist to Japanese Culture. They're just really into keeping kids from seeing any violence and sexuality in anime. They're the butchers of anime, turning them into cartoons.

B) I almost lost my fandom of One Piece because of what 4Kids did. Then Funimation saved One Piece by doing the following;

1. Funimation bought the rights to One Piece so they can save it from further butchering by 4Kids.

2. Funimation made the bad voice actors go away and re-educated the castmembers they wanted to keep. Seriously, I can watch One Piece in English and not cringe because of how well Funimation trained the voice actors.

3. Funimation didn't cut anything out.

I believe Funimation can save the other shows if they wanted to. I never watch Sonic X, I got sick of Ultimate Muscle, Shaman King was annoying, Kirby got a bad rap, and Yu-Gi-Oh was unnecessarily cut, edited, and voiced poorly.

I gotta hand it to that company. They really know how to edit a show intended for the older audience to best suit it for the younger audience.(Sorry no sarcastic mark thingy)
From the Banned pokemon episode(The beach one), removing the original music(Winx club and all)
to the One piece toy guns(the navy loves using toy guns right?), 4kids have done piss poor editing jobs.
But there is only one thing that bothers me the most. Removing the Japanese culture in the shows. Like the rice balls. I still don't get why they replaced rice balls with sandwiches. This to me is like an act of racism but I could be mistaken. Last thing that also annoys me about them is that making villains into...not villains. I mean... Check out the last video.

A)Is 4kids racist toward Japanese culture even though they use Japanese cartoons? Or just idiots in a suit.
B)Which shows have they ruined that you like?
The first question's answer is likely no . . . they're not racist. To do it for the reason of racism it would have to be an open strike against Japan, if anything the most explicit thing they can say about that with the rice balls is they just don't like riceballs . . . if they wanted to make a racist dig at japanese culture they could EASILY edit the shows in much more racist ways then that. For instance making any figures in authority seem like complete idiots no more intelligent then the children they're looming over. Making the villains of the stories always be children of equal or younger age then the protagonists, making obvious sexualization be put into place on the clearly pre-pubesant characters only to have them act like that's the norm where they come from. Treat the child heroes as the only hope since the afformentioned adults are all so helpless it falls to children to save them . . . oh wait

as for the second, anything that's ended up on 4Kids makes me angry . . . for the longest time I thought it was actually a BAD thing to like anime because of seeing those networks do such a job on them. Then someone let me borrow an admittedly slim collection of an anime called "Gundam Wing" that's when it all turned around for me and I saw the travesty 4Kids was committing before my eyes.

And really, a lot of the anime they censor so heavily is actually made FOR CHILDREN in japan, it comes down to them assuming children in america are too sheltered to be able to COPE with the things they would see in these shows. That's why things like Pokemon seem so very abysmall and soul crushing when watched on American TV, because if you decide to watch the REAL version (pirated or otherwise) you'll notice while reading the subs all the way through and watching it without rice balls turned into sandwhiches that really . . . Pokemon is just as immature in JAPAN as it is in america, only less insultingly so.

The point I'm trying so very labouriously to make is that even if they aren't racist, they're still going about it the wrong way. They're doing the same thing the critics of movies like "Where the Wild Things Are" and any T rated game make. They assume children are simply half formed adults and that they will see the world exactly the same way as adults.

That doesn't happen as Moviebob and a metric ASS TON of psychologists, sociologists and other doctors have repeatedly told us before. Children have a different view of the world and different wiring. They don't see the same thing we do in a picture. That's why they react so different to things we see as commonplace or strange. They have an easier time understanding why a military of 50K+ soldiers would rely on a single dude with giant arms or the power to stretch himself out. Adults bog their head down with the question of what good it does to rely on one man while a child goes "oh, well he's got those giant arms and things break when he hits them, ok that's cool"

and I'm going to stop now, this post is way to long

4kids is just another classic example of TV execs thinking their audiences are a bunch of hyper-sensitive, braindead little morons who don't realize there are countries other than the United States.

The stellar, mature programming produced by more progressive animation companies, like Warner Brothers Animation, has proven that children aren't the dolts 4kids seems to believe they are. There's no excuse for them to continue butchering anime in an attempt to "protect" them.

Well, unless they're trying to avoid pissing off Little Billy's sue-happy mother, but that's another discussion altogether.
I think it's the latter of what you said there... They don't care about the kids, they worry about the parents and their discovery of the internets...

Shh... Before some one gets the idea of making a religious cult named Internetology and say that man came from the internet!

I have never watched 4Kids and i don't get acess to it where i am living. It seems that they are trying to take content that was not meant for their demografic. It is for example making adult entertainment kid friendly. it ist stupid and not worth it and pretty dense. What i do not understand is that it is a children's network is trying to not show guns and sexuality when they can either acess it on the internet or even in their own homes (this is an american station?) don't try and market stuff that is not originally for the age group. it jsut amkes sense.

but i guess not.

A)No they are not racists they are making a show for a culture to understand, I tried watching lucky star and while funny(for a while) all the culture stuff just went over my head. You try showing a US kid a show filled with japan culture and see if he gets the references in it.

B)None

they o it because they think the only way to appeal to kids in america is to make things americans would do

i dont think they are racist, i think they are trying to keep the culture of the kids as a pure blooded United States Resident, everybody knows that once the Japanese culture gets into your veins its going to make you weird, buy swords and learn japanese, and its one step away from hentai wich everyone knows is all about rape

and heaven forbid the kids might actually "learn" something from their shows

I actually thought the original dubbing for Pokemon done by 4Kids was actually BETTER than when The Pokemon Company took over.

I remember growing up in the 90's and I fucking loved Pokemon and to be honest I still do, I don't watch the TV series anymore and I haven't collected the card in a while, But the games and the movies (apart from Pokemon 3 and 5) still keep me interested.

(Boring part)
everytime I watch a Pokemon movie, all the memories of my childhood come back to me like a (insert quote here), I fucking love all the movies (but not 3 and 5) and I still buy the new Pokemon games to this day and I still love them

Yep I am one of those annoying anime fans. (sorry)
