are you an idiot, forgetful or just trying to be edgy? As soon as it was revealed that Fallout 3 was an FPS people threw a god damn ***** fit. It was expected to be a shit version of an amazing series of games. I went in expecting shit, came out with roses. Not the best roses, but roses. That was a great experience.Stall said:Oh, and this more or less sums up my general sentiment. I'll just quote you and be done with it. Skyrim is overhyped. I am more than willing to bet that it is going to be a colossal disappointment. It's what happened with Oblivion, it's what happened with FO3, and it's going to be what happens with Skyrim. Pattern recognition people, use it. It's one the biggest reasons why humans didn't get nommed so hard off the food like something that got nommed off the food chain (is the past tense of "nom" with one 'm' or two?).
Sorry...what? Explain yourself? What do you mean by pretentious, because I don't ever remember the game interface trying to impress me with its culture. It was a game interface.Popido said:Skyrim needs modding. Give it couple months and then look again.
...DX:HR? Really? I found it pretentious. The interaction between the player and the game felt too ..pretentious!
Can someone tell me if they've actually fixed the retarded leveling system? Otherwise regardless of anything else they do to the game it will be crap. Just as Daggerfall, morrowind, and Oblivion were before it (why do I keep buying these games!)godofwarishere said:5 Facts http://www.pagesportal.net/contents/wp/?p=105#comment-77

It is a little pretentious, but only a little. The game more or less lives up to its pretensions IMO.jboking said:Sorry...what? Explain yourself? The era of judging a game based on content is OVER. Bring on the empty hype machine.Cridhe said:It's not out yet, nobody has even played it and it's already being rated game of the year. It's the top rated game when I turn on my 360.
So just doing exactly what people expect of the series, but much better isn't worth goty or praise. I suppose I should expect sequels to not reflect their previous iterations at all. Of course, Oblivion didn't have you fight dragons randomly, didn't have you learn dragonborn abilities like slowing time, didn't have you combine spells while casting to make more potent/interesting combinations, didn't let you simply walk away from having a conversation with someone if you got bored of them.ShakyFiend said:Dual wielding and good graphics do not a game of the year make, neither does just 'doing what oblivion did only better' for that matter. Innovation people!
Yes, I was making a passing comment about the use of the word "pretentious" to define a hud, especially DE:HR's. It doesn't wast time trying to impress. It was minimalist, showing ammo, inventory quick keys, hp, and a map. Occasionally it showed updates to a quest or experience gained, but I would be a little upset if it didn't. I honestly can't see how this can even be misinterpreted as "pretentious," as everything displayed is there with good reason and isn't flashy(it's minimalist).Continuity said:It is a little pretentious, but only a little. As for impressing us "with its culture" i think perhaps you're not entirely understanding the word "pretentious", allow me to supply a definition:
Adjective: Attempting to impress by affecting greater importance, talent, culture, etc., than is actually possessed.
i.e. making out that its better than it is in some way.
When I asked him to explain yourself, I was asking him to point things out that made it seem pretentious. The story presentation is, well, typical for games today. I don't see how it is pretentious in the least.I dont know about the gameplay being pretentious but its a plausible charge at least on the delivery of the story elements and the characters plus maybe the aesthetic. Still, a little pretension is better than just not trying at all. Far better.

Well, we ARE looking at the voting bodies that chose Uncharted 2's cinematics over the entirety of Assassin's Creed 2, so they might just break Bethesda's winning streak out of fanboy spite.Elsarild said:5 reasons I don't care:

It has to compete with MW3 and BF3, both games with strong backing despite how shitty the product is.
