"5 Scariest Games" list in Toronto Sun

What in the name of fuck is Minecraft doing in there? Clearly, this list was not made by any gamer relevant to his/her medium.

My list:

- F.E.A.R, Amnesia: Dark Descent, Fatal Frame, Condemned: Criminal Origins, Condemned 2: Bloodshot

Fucking Toronto Sun.. Pfft.

It's scary and fun, but mostly scary...

This really IS the ideal situation for playing this game. Literally did the exact same thing, and it resulted in a great night.

Yes, Minecraft is a benevolent world-building game with a low-fi retro look that is anything but scary. But every game in this list has one thing in common: isolation. And isolation is the heart of Minecraft, a game that drops you into a huge, randomly generated world and gives you no objective other than survival.

Have they played Limbo? It does isolation and menace 100 times better.

Anyone who says Minecraft isn't scary obviously has never played it and is simply judging it by the way it looks.

Seriously, the only other game that's frightened me more and has made me more paranoid than Minecraft is S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, and I'm not kidding or trolling at all.

I found those funny actually, god that was bad writing.

i played the gamecube remake recently and it was really creepy. never played the Playstation original but saw some vids of it on youtube and it was SO badly done it was, as you say, funny.

Not anything actually scary like Silent Hill or Resident Evil (maybe not current Resident Evils, but when I was younger 1-3 scared the crap out of me, bad/humorous writing/voice acting aside)

Those guys must be really easy to scare.

Yeah... They mention 'isolation' and don't even list silent hill 2...

But I'll give them that minecraft is scary. Yes. It is. Scariest of all time? Hell no, but it is frightening when you're constantly trying to survive.

What you need to realize is that nobody buys the Sun for it's journalism. Back when I was still taking English in school we were told that out of all the papers in the Greater Toronto Area, the Sun was the most poorly written one (the average article is written at the 6th grade level). Only people buying it are horny old men who are interested in the scantily clad pin-up Sunshine girl and the thicker than average sports section.
