Six people, including three children, have been killed in a knife attack on the usually peaceful island of Jersey.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-jersey-14523741

This is pretty tragic, especially since 3 children have been murdered.
Pretty shocking for a guy who was there as well, he explained how he could hear their screams.

Hope they've caught the right person.

People that are convicted of such horrible atrocities should be publicly subjected to the same fate. I say, string him up, in a public park, and let chavs knife him until justice is done.

Just a friendly tip.
EDIT: Did warn you, on two occasions.

Whoever did this deserves to be taken out back and shot the day the jury finds him guilty.

Honestly, it's stuff like this that make me glad I can get a handgun carry permit when I turn 21, because something can happen in even the safest of places. Even if I was stabbed first, at least someone with me could grab my gun and try to survive.

Or the stabber could grab your gun and stop stabbing and start shooting. Just a thought.

The difference is my friends would know I had it and where, the stabber wouldn't.

If he's close enough to stab you he's close enough to frisk your corpse, especially if you were in the midst of pulling it out when said stabbing occured.

Regardless, OT: A shame, first Oslo and now this. Seems the world is getting worse and worse everyday.

I'm not sure frisking my corpse would be his primary concern if there are others around me, lest he find his face on the receiving end of an adrenaline-fueled Falcon Punch from one of my friends. Stabs are rarely instantly lethal, so maybe I'd get to start shooting before enough blood poured out to completely disable me.

Not saying I'm any kind of superhuman, but my main point is I'd at least legally have a weapon of my own to try to use.

But what if the stabber had Commando Pro?

OT: ...what a lovely way to start my day.

Aren't you more likely to shoot yourself or someone innocent though?
I've never really thought that guns solve anything, other than the hideous problem of over-population.

Some sick bastards around.

"It was not like a playful scream - they were really screaming," he said.
Not to pick on a member of the general public but I read this and took it as "I heard kids screaming and they were interrupting my TV show so I turned up the volume".

Pretty sure if some people here, heard kids screaming in a way he described as "actual screaming", would have tried to help.

Might just be me, but I am a bit daft when it comes to shit like that. Wouldn't be able to look at myself in the mirror if i'd heard that and not tried to do something.

Having been on the wrong end of a knife on one occasion I can say the bleeding won't disable you, the pain will. More painful than anything that's happened to me.
in any case I was more making a point than saying a gun wouldn't help.
Also, what if you didn't have any friends with ya?

Yeah, watched that heart-felt speech on the TV.
About 5 seconds of emotion right there.

If he had Commando Pro, then I just hope I notice the person in the street with a weapon at the ready before I'm fifty feet away.

Normally yes, but one of the benefits of legally owning weapons is being able to go to ranges and practice. Ammo's relatively cheap, so I know I'll be practicing. I mean, I could buy a few hundred handgun rounds instead of a video game, so it'd just be a matter of choosing the ammo over the next new release. It's just something you have to take seriously (which everyone who owns a gun should, since it's the difference between life and death).

And guns solve quite a few problems. Look at Hitler: we tried giving him what he wanted to avoid war, and look how that turned out. It would've been nice to not have a second world war, but violence can be used for good.

I can understand that.
I've been working on making myself keep my eyes moving, checking people's hands and where they're looking, and pretty much looking at any kind of sudden movement. I'm not terribly subtle about it, either, since security's taught me to check my corners and look behind me every now and then. Without the distraction of company, I'm pretty much looking everywhere. I'm not perfect at it, but it helps stack the odds more in my favor.

Ah, a bit of paranoia is healthy. Especially for people in your line of work.

I mean I work at a pretty safe post, but I'm trying to prepare myself for a) when I'm old enough to be issued a weapon and b) the general responsibility of carrying one when not at work. I doubt I'm what any professional would consider good at this, but you gotta start somewhere, right?
