So there is a news story here in Sweden, a 6-year old boy got stabbed by his class mate with a blunt knife(table knife or something). The kid, the one who got stabbed, had been bullied because he liked the colour pink, ballet and nail polish. The school responed this with "If you wear pink, you better be prepared to get bullied".

This has resulted in some debate wheter it's okay for parents to dress their child like that, even though they know he might be at risk for bullying. I think it's the most stupid things I ever heard, you aren't to let the bullies set the rules.

The Escapists toughts on this?

Link? Source? Anything? Not saying you're trolling, but I'm not very liable to comment on either side of the issue if I don't even have a paragraph to read about it.

I find it highly unlikely that a place like Sweden would say such a thing. Some kind of source is needed here.

Well, there are several thing I want to note,
1) The boy likes pink, so what? the school is being pretty stupid about a color...
2) We are talking about 6 year olds here, their too immature and ignorant to know not to bully him.
3) if a 6 year old is evil enough to stab another person, well, that person (the stabber) needs harsh punishment now, if the law or school go easy on him now, expect a future killer out of him.
4)There are plenty of ways he can get around wearing pink like for example, wear a pink shirt but a (insert fitting color here) sweater over it.
5) Life sucks like that, bullies should NEVER and I mean NEVER be the person setting the rules, there are cases where it can result in the victim committing suicide.. Parents and officials should and HOPEFULLY do something reasonable

Also, you got a source? It would help with the legitimacy of it..

Sigh* the media always over does these kind of things in every neighborhood there are people who are going to get bullied for varying reasons. A "blunt knife" is often simply a kitchen knife used to put butter on bread...

It's in Swedish, but the "Hon säger också till Jönköpings-Posten att en i personalen avfärdat det hela med att man får vara ?beredd på att bli mobbad om man har rosa kläder på sig?. " part is the intresting one.

If this is true (link?) then that's fucking ridiculous as a response from the school.

I mean, I'd agree with what they're saying, but that shouldn't just be their response.

I never did understand gay bashing and bullying. I mean, I'm not saying the kid is gay, but it reminds of how easily heterosexuals are provoked to violence. I mean, logically wouldn't a gay guy = more chicks to go around for you? Just saying.

Hon säger också till Jönköpings-Posten att en i personalen avfärdat det hela med att man får vara ?beredd på att bli mobbad om man har rosa kläder på sig?.

She also says to Jönköpings-Posten [newspaper] that a teacher had rejected the whole thing by saying "be prepared to be bullied if you are wearing pink"

was the boy tan? tan guys look great in pink!

also, it is actually impossible to curb bullying unless you go the route of japanese schools and implement strict discipline and loss of individuality. so, i kind of see where the school's point of view. put it down to further proof life sucks and there aint a thing you can do about it.

Okay, first off, by the sound of things the kid was poked with what was probably a butter knife and did not sustain any injuries. Second, it sounds like the kid was experiencing garden variety being picked on. I got picked on a lot in grade school, too. Kids are cruel, selfish little monsters sometimes, it happens. From experience, I can say no one can protect a kid from being picked on, adult intervention actually makes it worse.

To all the people who say that schools should not allow name calling and such, how do you propose they stop them? I've personally seen teachers try to stop people from picking on a person, I've seen people be punished for it excessively, it never stops it for long, if at all.
