First off, this isn't new. 2ndly, she was out at 10 a clock at night in a known bad neighborhood. Her parents are halfway to blame.

This thread title is incredibly misleading. Makes it seem like someone just walked up to a seven year-old and blew their face open for no reason. The article is much less morbid in that, yeah, a seven year old died, but she was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Still sad =(

That is seriously one of the most Morbid things I have seen in a LOOOOOOONG time. I seriously hope the fucker who did it is brought down.

What also Bothers me is that they have had 250 Homicides so far this year.

Up here in Calgary we have only had like 5 (Checks) Wait no only 4! And the first did not happen till like march...
Seriously? Where I live it's bigger news when no one dies.
Hehe well he's Canadian... he's not used to US sized homicide numbers...<.<

OT: It's like something that you see in a exploitation movie trying to pull our heart strings... It's just a bit unbelievable... selling Lemonade and everything...

Stray bullet...sorta makes this less grim, IMHO. I mean, she's not any less dead, but someone intentionally killing a 7 year old is hard to fathom, someone trying to kill someone else and someone getting accidently killed who happened to be 7 is tragic, but "part of the plan" or whatever.
I'm inclined to disagree. If someone wanted her dead then at least her death would have some sort of purpose, albeit a twisted, horrifying, and misguided one. As things stand it is just such a POINTLESS waste of what was the beginning of a life full of opportunity and potential. Nothing was set in stone at this point, she could have done absolutely anything she wanted with her life. But now she's is dead for not a single god damn reason.

We need to do something about all of this gang violence, it's just absolutely sickening and serves no purpose but to keep us withheld to a primitive, tribal level. If that means taking our guns away, go for it. How can we Americans have such an obsessive infatuation with guns that we can somehow justify countless deaths like this "for the greater good"? Disgusting.

...I have no reaction to this other than to wish the perpetrators of this crime live the most depressive, depraved existence bestow-able by human kind.

Condolences to the family.

What a horrible waste of life...A stray goddamn bullet.

Heaven had asked to move out of the neighborhood where the family had lived for six months because of the violence there.Seriously those parents are fucking idiots for bringing their daughter to a place like that. Hope the lower rent was worth it assholes, cause now you've got plenty left over for her funeral arrangements!
If they were living in a place like that (i.e. an impoverished, crime-ridden neighbourhood) I seriously doubt they had much choice. Think before you make yourself look like an insensitive prick.

Sad thought: kids die this way all the freaking time. The only reason this story is noteworthy is because she was actually outside doing something when it happened. A lot of times they get shot in the house by stray bullets.

But hey, don't snitch! Snitches get stitches. Gotta protect our beloved gang members and drug dealers. I bet he really showed that guy he was shooting at. Made him feel like a big man.

Someone got shot in a ghetto slum? It's hard to muster up sympathy the ten millionth time it happens. This week. Kind of like those people that live in Hurricane Alley getting fucked by a hurricane, or people crying on the news because the house they build on a volcano has lava running through the living room. Not her fault she was born in a shithole, but not the least bit surprising that said shit hit the fan and sprayed her good.

Now if this were to happen in an area not comparable to a third world war zone, the shock would conjure some empathy. But I hesitate to bother lending any mind to this incident. Get all torn up when this happens and you'll be dead by year's end.

Life sucks. That's all I got.

Another sad story from the US involving guns... when will they learn? probably never :p
This was a couple of gangsters having a shoot out, and a little girl getting hit accidentally. I can absolutely guarantee you that none of the people in that shoot out had legally bought and licensed guns, and I can also guarantee you that no gun control laws would have prevented them from illegally buying them.
Maybe not never, but not for a long long time with comments floating around like that.

I was going to side with you and call troll bait, but.. think about it. No one has to live anywhere, at least not in this country. They couldn't have known their kid would get killed, their kid could have gotten killed anywhere, and their kid didn't deserve to die... but... saying they had no choice is a little short sighted. There's always choice all the time. I doubt they're going to continue living there now. I could be wrong, but I didn't think the west side of Chicago was the particularly shitty part. I thought it mostly sucked in the south and east sides of town.

Believe me, property is cheap as shit down here in the boondocks (an hour outside of Chicago). It's no picnic here either (there are quite a few shootings), but no little kids have gotten shot selling lemonade lately. It costs a lot of money to live near the city, even in the crap parts of town. If they lived there, it was probably because they wanted to live there.

Double post. Captcha tricked me. But yeah, I'll take this opportunity to say that I'm probably somehow wrong in my previous post.

REPRESENT! ;)

OT: I agree with the OP... Not gonna get much sleep tonight with this in mind.

And... 250 homicides, and only within the last 6 months? I had no idea Chicago was so troubled. Honestly, I think the money the family saved up to go to Disneyland would've been better spent getting the hell out of their neighborhood... Permanently! But Chicago being the size it is, I imagine rent prices are crazy no matter where you live in that city. Not that they'd have to stay in Chicago anyways...

At least it made the news. Shit I remember when my first friend was murdered it didn't even make a small section in the local paper. I hate it when kids get killed, so much wasted potential (plus the memories) but it happens. Police are scared, out-numbered, under-funded, under-paid and just can't be everywhere. Sucks but shit happens.

Well for one thing gun control only takes guns away from law abiding citizens. You really think outlawing them are going to stop gang members from using them? Gangs don't follow the rules to begin with. Outlawing something in society only creates a black market for whatever has been banned, and thats worse because it can't be regulated.

Allowing guns in this country, but keeping them regulated, hurts the black market... ergo helps keep unlicensed weapons out of the hands of bad guys. Ideally you want the rules just strict enough to be able to track ever bullet to a guns owner, but light enough that people rather buy guns the (easier) legit way then from the black market guys.
