So I just saw one of the dumbest fucking news stories I've ever heard in my life.

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/14/nyregion/14watchlist.html?no_interstitial

If you don't want to read that, basically, there's a little 8 year old boy who is on the US's "Suspicious People List" which means, this kid can't fly anywhere. Why exactly is he on this list? Because apparently, there is another man by the name of Michael Hicks (the 8 year old's name) who is considered a threat to the US.

But surely people are smart enough not to take this seriously and know that this is just a mere coincidence that this boy has the same name. Obviously he's not a threat to the US.

You'd think that, but actually airports are required to pat down this kid and frisk him as if he was a terrorist.

What. The. Fuck?!

I don't get this at all. Can people not tell that this kid is just that? A fucking child! What the hell are these people thinking? That he's gonna blow up the plane?

His parents are needless to say, outraged.

What does the Escapist think of this?

I think it needs to be pointed out that using children as suicide bombers because "no one would suspect them" isn't entirely uncommon. That said, this does just sound like a big coincidence.

"the kid can't fly anywhere"

Yeah, he can fly in and out of the States, just with additional screening.

I once saw a US military guy with the name "Sanchez" getting stopped for more screening...

I dunno, that kid looks deadly...

OT: This is getting ridiculous. I'm less and less proud of my country every day.

Yes, this is stupid. That's what everyone is going to say. What exactly do you want us to discuss?

Now that you say it, he does look a bit like a young Mark David Chapmen.

The russians planned on using orphans to deliver bombs into strategic locations. The idea was that you put a crying child in a sensitive location and get them to act like they were lost. they would be taken to security and then the bomb would detonate

That's just like landing on Free Parking and getting "Do Not Pass Go, Do Not Collect $200"
It's just not fair to whoever it is.
(Monopoly, in case you were wondering)

I've heard of much more stupid things people have done.
The depth of stupidity that humanity can sink into is quite shocking.
In the words of Albert Einstein: "Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe."

Its old news because this thing has happened before. An infant was on it a few years back. I dunno the name, I don't think it was released, but a family tried to bring an infant on a plane, and his name was on the no fly list.
