Yeah, sorry, I guess this is the biggest problem in this thread (and that post, I thought we were keeping things technical), I was talking about the specs, the technology behind it, the Wii was very lacking in graphical power. I wasnt saying that it was a bad console to ownTheMisterManGuy said:Except the Wii was good.josemlopes said:So yeah, success doesnt just mean that its good, just look at the Wii.
Well, most of the stuff online about it is developers doing exclusives for the PS3 (Insomniac and Guerilla Games) and they say that the PS3 is easier, but take that with a grain of salt. Still, a dev from Oddworld said and I quote:inu-kun said:Not sure about the PS2 but the PS3 was definitely more of a ***** to develop to the point it was actually referenced in a computer course I've taken.josemlopes said:![]()
Even the fucking PS3 was easier to develop.
I really dont see where I dont make sense, this shit is basic stuff, like why the Wii sold so much.
Whatever exclusives the 360 did have, I either traded in, or it no longer became exclusive. For example, Bayonetta was supposed be released on the 360 only, but Sega wasn't having it, and demanded that Platinum do the PS3 version simultaneously. Platinum refused and gave the development kit to Sega, hence the crappy port that took a huge update patch for it to function. It's all the more ironic, because Sony lost several exclusives when they released the price point for PS3 ($599.99 US DOLLARS). Final Fantasy XIII, Devil May Cry 4, and Resident Evil 5 Keep in mind, that all three franchises were almost always on a Sony console up to that point. were the ones first announced to no longer be on one system. When Square and Capcom made the news real, nearly every fan of either company or Sony raged and called "betrayal". I see why they would be upset, you have fans that put $500-$600 down on a console expecting these games to be exclusive to the console they bought; only to find out the companies couldn't afford a huge financial risk and decided to release it on a rival console too.Ezekiel said:i feel like Sony is barely trying with the PS4. Few good looking exclusives after two and a half years, a paid network that doesn't allow region and name changes and the same controller they've had since 1997. Are you gonna tell me the controller they made when 3D console gaming was just picking up is still ideal three generations later? They're pretty boring.
Yeah, I don't think Xbox ever really improved at this. The Xbox 360 is the worst console I've ever owned. It doesn't have a single exclusive that I want. I've been wanting to sell it ever since I won it.CoCage said:XBOX did have multiplatform games, but it's problem was being so focused on the FPS/online crowd; a heavy foreshadowing of worse things to come in Generation 7.
I always remember the N64's 2D sprites looking blurry and horrible compared to the PSX and Saturn. That could just be because of the age in which it was made I suppose.Ambient_Malice said:It can do 2D perfectly well. It's just that basically nobody wanted to make 2D games, especially for a console that was unpopular in Japan and dominated by Western developers. (Nintendo invited exactly zero Japanese devs to be in their "Dream team".) There was a huge stigma. And also, making 2D games was more expensive in terms of required cartridge-size.Rangaman said:The N64 didn't quite do that. It could do 3D rendering fine, but (from what I remember) it wasn't very good with 2D sprites.
I actually attempted to buy PAL versions of the PSX Mega Man games for my PS2. I made an educated guess about their sales after that unsuccessful venture. I was referring more to Beat-'Em-Ups and 1v1 Fighters than platformers, as I am aware 2D platformers fell out of fashion quickly.Ambient_Malice said:It's complicated. With a few rare exceptions, most 2D games sold poorly. There's a tendency to forget, for whatever reason, just how badly the Mega Man games sold.Rangaman said:It's also worth mentioning that 2D titles were still popular throughout the mid-late 90s. It wasn't really until the early 2000s that 2D properly died out.
From what I understand it was particularly difficult to port multiplatform games to PS3. The cell processor, memory distribution and low system ram was so different from PC and X360 architecture that developers really struggled(unless they were dedicated PS3 devs like you mentioned). Complaints from developers is actually the reason why PS4 is a 'traditional' x86 machine. The cell processor is also what made the PS3 initially so expensive and what caused Sony to sell PS3s at a loss in it's earlier years. It was an impressive feat of engineering though. I believe cell is still about 4 times faster than the current x86 CPU that's in the PS4. It's just that the general design of the PS3 left much to be desired(probably for cost saving reasons).josemlopes said:Well, most of the stuff online about it is developers doing exclusives for the PS3 (Insomniac and Guerilla Games) and they say that the PS3 is easier, but take that with a grain of salt. Sony is barely trying. They don't need to try at the moment, they have the best selling console. Their only competition at the moment is the Xbox One, and that's not posing a threat.Ezekiel said:i feel like Sony is barely trying with the PS4. From what I remember hearing, the PS3's Cell Architecture was intentionally made to be a pain to develop multiplats with.stroopwafel said:From what I understand it was particularly difficult to port multiplatform games to PS3. Big <3 for you. I grew up with early PC games (LucasArts stuff mostly) and parallel the SNES & Gameboy. To this day i still play the SNES, while i maybe undust the Wii for some GuitarHero and the occasional Partygame if i've fullhouse.Odbarc said:SNES has always been the best console. Even after I bought the newest ones the SNES never got unplugged. I wish there was some kind of CD replacement or uber-cartridge but I doubt they will because of piracy fears. Load times are the absolute bane of gaming.
Armored Core was such a massive delight. I was never into Gundam or anything like that but being able to customize robots and go out on missions and whatnot with multiple unique missions and areas... *mua* ... Good length too and because you can make so many different variations you can also do multiple play throughs going heavy into a specific play style.Adeptus Aspartem said:I never would've bought the Xbox 360 if it wasn't the heavily reduced a few years after the release - thank god i did it, else i would've missed out on the then new Armored Core games.
