It videogames cause violence and suicide, i would sucked a gun barrel a looooooooooooooooooong time ago. Maybe its because i lack a fundamental sympathy for the common man, but if a child plays a game like say F.E.A.R with the lights out in the middle of the night because shitting yourself is cool, nd then decides to hang himself. All i can say is HA because you fuckin walked into it.

People with mental issues know they have mental issues whether they admit it or not, whether they like it or not. If you know for a fact you have brutal nightmares, hallucinate, hear "the voices" , are severely depressed nd prone to violence-and then go play a game like F.E.A.R/Condemned/Manhunt etc etc etc, well good on ya! 1 less retard in the world.

God, this woman needs a beating.

This is just ridiculously stupid.

I think I might LAUGH at the parents, at the funeral, if they tried to tell me videogames made their son kill himself.

In all fairness, kids are very impressionable. A nine year old that plays lots of violent videogames could definetley have problems.

But there's no mention that he did. So they are just talking out of their ass.

After effectively admitting that he doesn't have the stones to blame something that can sue him, the family, which happens to be the most likely cause of this right after problems at school, he goes and pins it on an favourite old scapegoat. It's hard to see anything other than a quick attention grab in these stories now.

Sure, some kids go psychotic over games (see: "Greatest freak out ever" [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YersIyzsOpc]), but even that's entertainment.

(P.s. I don't care if the video's fake; it makes me laugh... step off.)
Is that not real? It looked pretty convincing

It is sad to hear what this kid done truly it is.

However I grew up playing games, Learnt to read and write playing Lesure Suit Larry (Yea i know but I couldn't understand it till i was older) and Holloween Harry. Watched violet movies from a young age.

But my parents believed I could handle the difference between fantasy and reality. They were right. But alas, not everyone can understand that difference. Nowadays everyone has a console or some other gaming platform. People like to point the finger at something they can blame generally something they don't understand. We don't know what else was wrong with the kid nor his living conditions. For all we know his parents could be great parents, his living conditions were great, but maybe a friend told him about it. Maybe he was being bullyed? To just point the finger at something.

Well its the usual the most common form of entertainment gets the blame (Ah the 90's and blameing TV)

Wait... so video games are the root of all evil? Never heard that one before. :p

But, I've been playing video games since I was about 8... and i've never hung myself, stabbed someone or tried to run someone over, seriously... the media it supposed to report on fact, video games causing 'anything' is not fact!

Wow. Violent video games? Really? Video Games are truly the media's scapegoat. If someone commits a crime and has a held a video game in the last 4 years, thats going to be the blame. Not negligent parents or abuse, but video games. *facepalm*

If video games were to blame for violence why aren't the lot of us running around killing people. Without sounding harsh, people seem to blame video games because a. they can't think of anything else or b.they don't want to face up to the fact their son/daughter had some psychological issue.

And if it was violent games and tv why the hell weren't his parents monitoring what he was doing, he was 9! Also I don't believe I've ever played a game where hanging yourself is in the storyline, or have I been rewarded for it so I'm not entirely sure how the IT WAS THE GAMES *POINTS FINGER* theory works.

Saddening though that a 9 year old commits suicide.

I hope I don't go too far out on a limb by saying this, but the idea of violence in games driving a child to commit suicide sounds to me like an underestimation of the intelligence of the victim.

Well the kid was 9 years old the games may have influenced him in some ways this is why YOU DON'T GIVE VIOLENT VIDEO GAMES TO 9 YEAROLDS

people with truama from bullys, bad family etc are very likely to resort to escapism such as video games/tv
this means many incidents like this will be linked to tv/video games instead of what made them go there.

who's the psychologist now!

but seriously, how do such idiots get to become docotrs ffs!

So... violent video games at an early age cause you to ask a teach to go to a bathroom, and to hang yourself? It just sounds ridiculous.
With my father exposing me to Heretic as a toddler, I do wonder what it did to my mind...

Other than the occasional nightmares of evil, pixelated demons, of course.
I mean, I play video games now, but when playing an older DOS game, like Tomb Raider, I get this sense of shock when the protagonist dies.
I'm trying to get over that fear now, but in retrospect, I have to wonder how much of it is the video games as it was my father and how he's been so terrible to us for most of my life.
I'm sorry, that sucks. I hope you get through it.
At age maybe age 4, my father gave us Mortal Kombat, and a year or two later, would have us watch a movie called: "Faces of Death" where it shows real people dying or already dead... He's never been bad to me or my brothers, though...but I'm stuck with a mental image of someone sewing a dead old woman's mouth/eyes/nose shut in a morgue, and have a constant fear of someone dying, or myself getting stabbed.

i'd say "jeu de foulard"(choking/faintig game), but that has nothing to do with video games, it's just something little retards do when they try to be cool, like riding a bike whithout holding the steer ("look mommy whitout hands" "CRASH")

Seriously Tom and Jerry are rated 15 in some episodes and many more older cartoons were just as violent as video games today. It all comes down to parents who can't raise their kids properly.

That psych sounds like he was sheltered as a child. Kids should not play violent games because it annoys the older players, not because they will be scarred for life.
