Wait, but what's the point of the satire? They're basically saying that pollution is a natural and unavoidable product of human existence, so any attempt to be environmentally conscious is a restriction of basic human rights. I do not approve.

Came because thread title had potential to be interesting. read the posts and didn't bother going to the link. I'm only commenting to say

holy shit if we get to wear bad ass gas masks I'd totally ditch out on air (Assuming they will be comfortable). Really, may be then we can make it so you can only wear trench coats, and everyone has to carry m4 rifles, and our Fall Out fantasies can be complete.
You are awesome.
(GWTB is also awesome. That is all.)

I hope this is a joke but then again

Thought's on this ......interesting article.

I think this is bloody ludicrous we may as well just go die because we will stop all our population from polluting.

i think its Trolling but im not 100% sure its true.
Really? How can you NOT be 100% on thinking this is bullshit?

This is pointing out (in a ham fisted joke kind of way) how foolish it is to call Carbon Dioxide a "toxin" or dangerous output.

Really it is inflammatory language that assumes ignorance of the Carbon Cycle which MUST remain moving for life to continue on this planet.

Obviously the problem is releasing fossilised carbon into the atmosphere, that is disrupting the carbon cycle and unless equal or near equal volumes of carbon are absorbed then CO2 in the atmosphere will get too high.

That subtly is lost on most of the commentators informing the public.

Basically two option:
(1) Release less FOSSILISED CARBON into the atmosphere
(2) Remove more Carbon Dioxide from the atmosphere.

You can do combinations of both, or you can do neither and see the greenhouse warming effect get greater and greater.

It's that simple. Stopping breathing won't help as CO2 we exhale comes from Carbon captured by plants, who remove the CO2 from the air, so it's a zero-sum exchange.

Highly exaggerated forms of the solution suggested by environmental activists? Genius! I mean, the message is that global warming is wrong because we breathe out CO2. Isn't that clever? STUPID scientists. Even if it was real, we should just do nothing anyway because we'll still make a negative impact anyway, through breathing. Global warming is just an evil atheistic hoax to slow down industry and create an unconstitutional global socialist government that puts soulless animals and the planet above the need of humans to have three cars and jet skis and eat steak every day LIKE GOD INTENDED. Our intelligent designer wouldn't have made the earth just to be destroyed, would he? Have some FAITH. Thank God websites like this and the Australian Tea Party is spreading the word.

"The world as the Gillard /Bob Brown Government see it?.. Apparently breathing makes one an evil polluter! CO2 is pollution and must be taxed?. And of course ?that means a TAX ON BREATHING, ?.because that is what a CO2 tax is."

Wait, never mind the "highly exaggerated" thing, this reliable source says they are demonising breathing. How far will they go?!

/sarcasm

[sub]Well, to be fair, I suppose it could be pointing out the absurdity of the self-righteousness and positive images that aren't really proportionate to the actual positive impact made by business who claim to jump on the green bandwagon as a marketing tool, and the people who feel good about themselves just by buying the occasional container that says "recyclable" or something", I wouldn't really know though because to be honest I just skimmed through the article.[/sub]

[sub]I'm also sorry if I offended any Christians or global warming skeptics who aren't bigoted like the stereotype I was mocking[/sub]

If you enforce a breathing ban everyone will die ([sub]edit:no shit <_<[/sub]). If everyone dies all at the same time, there will be no-one left to be sad, except everyone's pets would starve to death. :(
This is a beast of their own making, They have foolishly said "Greenhouse gas emissions are bad" and worse trying to say CO2 should be put in the same category as Lead or Mercury as a "Pollutant". It's intellectually dishonest as it goes agaisn't the definition of the word.

I hope the scientific establishment has dropped the idea of calling ALL CO2 a pollutant, as it only gives ammunition to the climate deniers as it IS bullshit, they use it to imply it ALL is bullshit.

The main issue to focus on is releasing FOSSILISED CARBON as CO2.

That fossilised carbon may be in calcium carbonate ("roasted" to make cement, releases CO2), coal, oil, natural gas, oil shale, so much stuff.

The point is this has not been in the carbon cycle for hundreds of millions of years now it is ALL ending up in the atmosphere! Not good.

This attention and lecturing about cows releasing Methane is a tangent that has given the global warming deniers more ammunition.

Methane from bio-organisms is trivial. It is already an established part of the carbon-cycle that has been more or less stable for millions of years. Methane does not persist in the atmosphere, it is degraded by sunlight and oxidation.

But the Fossilised Carbon is being released into the atmosphere at a far faster rate than it can be re-absorbed. So either release less FOSSILISED into the atmosphere or absorb it quicker.

The pollutant label doesn't fit.

Lobbying over methane from bio-mass is a distraction.

I was thinking more along the lines of the Empty Child from Doctor Who. "Are you my mummy?"

OT: This is so obviously a joke, but part of me wishes it was true.

Did you just apologise in advance AFTER you made a pun?

Wow, you people don't pay much attention do you.

For a start this article is more than 2 years old...
and it was very, very obviously a joke.

The reporter's name is "Hugh Betcha" for crying out loud, and it makes reference to regulating COW FARTS. Come on.
Agreed, but then again this is the Escapist we're talking about...
For a games-related forum, this site's actually doing pretty well at detecting satire.

For comparison, look at the responses to a typical joke thread in the suggestions section of the Minecraft forum. Alternatively, comment on Youtube.

obvious troll is obvious

if it is real, then i guess i'll just have to take the law into my own hands *puts on sunglasses and jumps on a bike* follow me everyone, we're going to wherever the EPA is stationed at and we're going to hold a protest of breathing, and kick their asses til they revoke this law. we'll win cause we'll have all the air on our side. let's do this

"All because we humans choose to breathe"

I literally lol'd when I read that in the middle of class. Seriously? Wear masks to save the Polar Bears or go to jail? It's essentially suggesting that not helping the environment is against the law and not a choice you have. Retarded. And that our breathing isn't essential to live. Of course we fucking breathe BECAUSE WE DON'T WANT TO DIE.

Idiots.
