Maybe the guy just dosen't like metal and just wants some new stuff in his library. I feel for that.

Why do people insist on classifying death metal outside of metal itself?

If you like A Perfect Circle, look up Puscifer or Tool. Same vocalist. Different styles.

Both = underappreciated where I live.

Since this thread is about bands that are underappreciated I really don't see why we can't post metal bands. You didn't say that this was just a thread to expand your own library.

So, Necrophagist are underappreciated.
There, I said it.
Learn how to read please.
You polite youngsters and your respect these days.

I repeat: This thread is about "underappreciated bands". It's true, it is: Read the title.
Why not just ignore whatever metal bands are posted?

But you did ignore how I recommended Puscifer. They're an interesting group with some great songs, I'd recommend Momma Sed.

Lit, breaking benjamin, electric six (they are awesome so so so awesome), hell is for heroes, inme, jimmy eat world, kutless, taking back sunday. there thats a mini list ;)
It makes me very very happy to see a mention of Hell Is For Heroes and InMe.

Also there's been mentions of stuff like Explosions In The Sky and their support act when I saw them live (Eluvium) which is lovely.

Um, right, my suggestions... I guess stuff like The New Pornographers. I tend to link this video (actually, I used to link the actual music video, but it's disappeared) when anyone asks me what I look for in a song, because I think this is about as close to my idea of perfect as a song is ever going to be:

I've seen inme live twice and even grabbed their tour poster off the wall, it's adorning my own wall as we speak. and hell is for heroes seem to be this forgotten band, but they were such a class act i don't know how it happened!come back!

Sounds like you like ambient stuff so check out some of Steven Wilson's work.
I think the best band most people have never herd of is Porcupine Tree (Steven Wilson's a member but it's not like his ambient solo work). Their later stuff gets rather heavy (But never up to metal level) however their earlier stuff is psychedelic rock reminiscent of Pink Floyd, Yes or early Genesis (before they turned to pop). Try "Up the Downstair", "The Sky Moves Sideways" and "Stars Die".

A Perfect Circle.
Hell yes. Seconded
'eMOTIVE' is most likely my favourite album ever.
I can't listen to whole albums, Pandora you know. I want my music free, but I don't want to steal it or anything.

I do, however, have A Perfect Circle Pandora station.

I imagine (haha get it?) the album is better as a whole.

I don't appreciate them because I don't think they're a form of music just like rap.
Thats kind of harsh. Metal is literally the same as rock except more heavy/epic/beautiful/moving/powerful/complex

Its made using the same instruments, and people just out for the money or superstardom wouldn't fit in here because metal is largely shunned by mass media attention.

But to each his own I guess. I don't like your bands but at least I have the decency to respect it and not call it nonmusic.

If I had to recommend a nonmetal band... umm... Econoline Crush is a rock band from like... Canada somewhere. They were the band that got me into rock... for the brief period that I only listened to songs that were in the mainstream and wasn't open to the world of unknown bands. They had one hit ever, but the album "The Devil You Know" is probably one of the best industrial rock albums (imo).

Reel Big Fish, Streetlight Manifesto/Catch 22, Suburban Legends, Random Hand (this may be a bit metal for you).

Ska is awesome.

Tiamat, naturally.

They started out as a metal band. But since the "A Deeper Kind Of Slumber" album it can be more fittingly described as psychedelic/progressive rock. If you like A Perfect Circle, you should like Tiamat.

It's spelled "Aphex Twin" btw.

I'm a big fan of Interpol and Spoon. Give 'Slow Hands' and 'No I in Threesome' by Interpol, and 'That's the Way We Get By' and 'The Underdog' by Spoon a listen on youtube or something.

I'm not sure if they are under-appreciated, but none of my friends even know who they are, which is a pity.

You don't like metal, but you didn't name this thread "Suggest music that I'd like and haven't heard of." So really, you've put this into open discussion, and so I believe that people should be able to post what bands they want.

Now, on topic: Hellogoodbye, Iron & Wine, Dntel, Justice, Apparat, Burial, Hey Monday, Three Days Grace, The Sick Puppies and The Postal Service. Some of these may be more well known, but I was introduced to them via obscure means so I think they warrant a mention.

Ever heard of 'Yes'? They are a great band back in the 70s and they did something completely different to everyone else. Give them a chance and the songs I recommend -

Roundabout
Yours is No Disgrace
Heart of the Sunrise
Starship Trooper: Life Seeker
South Side of the Sky
Owner of a Lonely Heart
And You and I
Close to the Edge

Enjoy :)
