A certain scene in Prometheus [MAJOR SPOILERS]

If you guys saw it, you know the one I'm talking about. For the record, it is the scene where Shaw performs a very bloody abortion on that tentacle squid baby thing. Was anyone else as disturbed by it as I was? Part of it may be because I'm a girl (and that was enough to make me swear off children) but apparently an Australian teen got a seizure from watching it. Poor plot/dialogue aside, this was the one thing that really bugged me. Your reactions? I would like to see the male point of view as well.

Edit: It was less about the cesarean and more about the hellspawn tentacle baby.

I thought it was fine. As the creepy robot dude said "Remarkable survival instinct."
But seriously, stop being so uptight, world. I'd have wanted that thing out of me by any means as well and I actually thought it was a clever, original scene.
Why exactly do you think the dialogue/plot was so poor? I thought it was a really clever but not in your face about it kinda movie. It let you think about what was going on and I had a very long conversation about the movie with my friend after seeing it, trying to fit the pieces of the puzzle it gave you together. Are you even a fan of the Alien franchise? This entire movie was pretty much meant for fans to enjoy and speculate over.
I feel bad for the poor teen that had a seizure from it, but anyone that has seen an Alien movie before should know to expect lots of flashing lights.
Overall, the best thriller movie I've seen in years. And probably the best movie to do with alien life since District 9. When you think about that OTHER movie with aliens in it that shouldn't need to exist, I think we got it pretty good.

You should never, ever watch Lake of Fire, then. It's actually a pretty good documentary, but you straight up watch two abortions take place and examine the infant's body parts in close detail.

Sure it was disturbing, but I assume that was the intention. As for the teen having a seizure - apparently there were reports of people literally throwing up in the ailses during the screening of Alien back in 1979, so Ridley Scott seems to have a track record of disturbing his audience when it comes to horror films.

One of the reasons why I enjoyed Prometheus (and the original Alien for that matter too) is that it was disturbing and seemed to work as much at a subconscious level as it did at an in-your-face gore kind of level.

It wasn't really an abortion as the creature didn't die, despite best efforts, and went on to have a long and fruitful union with an Engineer's esophagus. It was more of a caesarean.

I enjoyed the movie but it really wasn't what I was expecting. It could have done with being shorter though, in my opinion.

Yep, apparently true. At least according to one of the "making of" documentaries on my DVD special edition. Bear in mind it was 1979 and I'm guessing people then perhaps weren't as desensitized to film violence as they often seem to be now.

But seriously, it was supposed to make the audience feel uncomfortable and oogie. And in my opinion they should've had way more body horror stuff like that.

Guy perspective:
I enjoyed it because it was disturbing,I tend to not mind gore but when it is intrusive (I mean stuff puncturing flesh) I is just hard to watch, like others have said pretty sure that was the intention though.
Although what confused the hell out of me was that every one seemed to forget about it after that until the end of the film, 'uhhhhh, guys shouldn't the living alien abortion thing be higher on our list of priority's? No? Ok then.'

It's not a horror movie at all. It was nowhere near as scary as the first Alien - and while there were some pretty jumpy moments it wasn't what I'd call a horror film.

OT: I was fine with it, but my dad was cringing at it next to me. I thought it was a clever scene to be honest. Oddly, the only scene that's ever made me cringe and go 'Oooh!' was the torture scene from Casino Royale, mainly because just a light tap down there hurts like hell, and I was just imagining how much pain Bond must've been in. I still don't want to consider it, even now.

The film was great by the way. Amazing visuals, good dialogue and story, great acting, not much I can really fault it on. Alien was better, naturally, but they're different types of movie and I'm not going to criticise Prometheus at all for not being as good as one of my favourite films of all time.

Those were times with very little graphic violence in tv and movies. The cgi was almost nonexistent and special effects were created with use of physical preps. Vampires and mummies ruled over horror genre, and monsters were often portrayed by actors covered from head to toes with rubber, clumsy costumes.

There ware no webpages with pictures of mutilated corpses. There was no YT or Facebook. No Internet. There were no mainstream books and comics depicting excessive violence and bloodbaths. The term "splatterpunk" was coined - i'm not sure - 5 or 6 years after the Alien movie.

...I can say that we simply weren't "vaccinated" against gore. ;]
