Well, it was disturbing, but I've seen worse, however I did think that it would be many times more disturbing to a female audience. I watched it with two female friends, and they seemed quite shaken by the whole thing.fireaura08 said:If you guys saw it, you know the one I'm talking about. For the record, it is the scene where Shaw performs a very bloody abortion on that tentacle squid baby thing. Was anyone else as disturbed by it as I was? Part of it may be because I'm a girl (and that was enough to make me swear off children) but apparently an Australian teen got a seizure from watching it. Poor plot/dialogue aside, this was the one thing that really bugged me. Your reactions? I would like to see the male point of view as well.
I'll say this though, the scene cemented the character as a badass. You'd think most people, upon finding they're impossibly three months pregnant with a baby of unknown species, would panic beyond the point of any sort of logic. Typical female horror characters would most likely cry and act useless until the alien feotus tears its way out. Not Shaw. She went, "F*** this shit, I'll go get this thing cut out my damn self! Oh what, the machine's meant for male patients? Oh well, I'll go for the next closest operation, whilst anethatising myself!" And after this experience, she goes on to kick the ass of an extremely powerful alien, AND THEN, forgoes her chance of going home to instead march right up to said alien's doorstep and demand answers. Hard. F***ing. Core.
Personally, the scene where the two geologists trapped in the ship die was the most disturbing. It was just outright nasty. Also, it made me draw a comparison. Prometheus is like silent hill homecoming. Only with effort. The sexual imagery that influenced the alien design was there in full force, almost as if someone had seen it in the original alien and said "hey, we should put that kinda thing in.
The worm comes out of the slime looking like a, well, penis. Then it's "mouth" folds out into a shape not dissimiliar to a human pelvis with a vagina-mouth thing in the centre, at which point it attacks, breaking the dudes arm before traveling down his throat.
Not sure what it means, besides the obvious male rape comparison, but effort and creativity was put into it, and above all, it was...unpleasant, to say the least. Unlike homecoming in which they just said "silent hill? That's the thing with the triangle dude isn't it? Well we have to put him in it!"
