My head's sore...
It's like the matrix. Really fucked up, but you cannot deny it...

That's quite incredible, but very interesting.

Wouldn't it be ironic if that was actually the intended interpretation of the Pokemon anime?
That would be like if M. Night Shamaylan decided to make an anime

Don't worry about the headache. That's just your childhood memories dying.

Lol, if that turns out to be true it would be one of the most depressing endings ever.

I believe Ash himself said it best in Gold/Silver under the alias of "Red":

That being said,
I must now go reevaluate everything I ever thought I knew about my childhood memories.

Or not. Good read, though.

O_O I actually want to find and watch the show now, knowing all this.

It's so.... Just... well done! Deep, heartening, while still somewhat dark. But not in a bad way.

Edit: Let me just say this. If you don't like this thread or have seen this entry before, don't bother commenting. You don't have to read it and I'm not forcing you to. If you scroll down to the bottom of the front page, you will see 950 pages of threads you can read besides mine. Each one of those pages has 25 threads in them. That's 23,725 OTHER threads you can read other than mine (Not counting the front page).

So, if you feel like saying this has been done before, don't and just be on your way.

Except that in the first episode he is watching a Pokemon tournament before the accident ever happens.

Therefore the world of Pokemon can't be his dream.

That and its just a half hour commercial for a game thought up by a guy who collected bugs as a kid.

Very interesting read and sounds very plausible. However, knowing that the anime is based upon the original video games, the theory here does loose merit. For example, there are other kids similar to Ash in other games with the same dreams but with no rat to accompany them (at least I think so, I gave up after red/blue/yellow).

However, this theory could also easily apply to the kids in those games too. I'm only basing this over little experience playing the later Nintendo DS incarnations and GBA ones, but the protagonists are always some new kid moving to a new area, or reaching some form of maturity at the start of the game, and then adventures in a very PG world where everyone does rely a lot on pokemon, like Ash does in the dream-theory.

Interesting food for thought, and surprisingly, it makes the series (game and anime) a lot more easier to understand for me. :p

wow... I'll never think the same of that show again... ... I don't watch it anymore, but if I did... I so wouldn't take it the same.

Wow, good read. Really insightful. I haven't watched the show in ten years, and seen maybe three of the movies, but this made a lot of sense. It sounds like an analysis that would be handed in at a university for some course, for some reason.

That was very... depressing. I'd rather just look at it in the same way I've looked at it for years: a cartoon. But, seriously, this is just... wow.
