If the new developers don't do well than the halo fans are gonna start the worlds largest flame war.

This was a excellent post. I to have many fond memories of Halo, and I hope Reach is the best one yet. I just hope 343 doesn't mess up the franchise.
This.

Why is it that I want to see that?

The final salute should be them rereleasing Halo 1 and 2 on a single disc for 360. It's a travesty that they haven't.

Sure they got Halo 1 for 1200 points, but it needs more than that tbh.

Well, I only liked the first game but I'll still salute the franchise for being successful.

I'm not the biggest Halo fan in the world, but I admit I've had my fair share of enjoyment from the series.

Hopefully Reach will end it on a good note, and hopefully it wont be continued by another dev, as I wouldn't like to see a good series dragged out to it being a shell of its former self.

I also wonder... what next for Bungie?

Yeah, halo was the first 3d game i ever played. I was brought up on doom 1-2, heretic and hexen.
CE was epic. From then, though, it could only go downhill.

Fuck, Halo is still one of my most favorite game series. The novels compliment it wonderfully.

Very well written, I might go play through the original if I can find my disc. Nicely written and very nostalgic inducing

Correction: regardless of how well the new developers do, some Halo fans will start the world's biggest whinge thread. There are always fanboys who hate any kind of change - look at all the people who act like Fallout 3 raped their mother.

A brilliantly written thread. I found myself agreeing with nearly all you said.

It'll be a weird moment when I complete Reach. I know how its likely to end, since the Master Chief is the 'last spartan' I'm not in high hopes for Noble Team. I'm fully expecting a COD4-esque ending. I hope not, but its likely.

Great post.

Great article, even though I didn't agree with your take on 3 (for me it has the weakest campaign of the series). I'm looking forward to Reach with great excitement, in fact I downloaded Halo:CE from XBL the other day to get myself back into the Halo groove - my original disc died the death a long time ago through over-use.

One of the best things about Halo is that its graphics are still decent. They're definitely not great, but they're decent and that means its still easy to play through without being disappointed.

Halo. Halo. I like Halo. I think that halo was a great series from begining to end. Even ODST was good even though it was to short. Reach will probably do just as well and be just as good if not better than halo 3.

But good lord man, the series is only 9 years old! And a new game is right on the horizen There is no need to get all nostalgic when theres a new one coming out. Really though this is a good post.

*Salutes* You are a man of brilliance. I too am a young gamer, if I did the math right then I'm a year younger than you and Halo is what got me on to FPS games. The only other FPS I had ever played was Duke Nukem 3D.

I have Legendary Edition waiting for me (EbGames sold out Australia-wide so I had to preorder it at an electronics store, which I don't believe has a midnight launch) and I'll pick it up on the 14th even if I have to walk.

I loved every single Halo game (including Halo Wars and ODST so get over it fanboys), the first one I played through with my sister after convincing her to help me get past a particularly hard part. I played alone through every other game up until Halo Reach when my friend who is more of a brother came over for about a week because he lives so far away, he came over during the week ODST came out and I went to the midnight launch and we beat it the next/same day depending on how you look at it.

I have made an agreement with my friend saying that the moment we both have Reach (because he might not get it on the 14th) we will jump on Campaign and play through it on Legendary for a marathon gaming session. He's asked me to stay away from the campaign until we both have it and I'll try but I don't know if I can, I always finish the campaign before doing matchmaking but I don't think it counts seeing as how I jumped into the beta?

Before I write a novel matching the page number of a Stephen King book I'll finish by saying this: Halo = awesome.

Well technically he is seen as the last Spartan II [http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/SPARTAN-II_Program], Noble Team is made up of Spartan IIIs [http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Spartan_III], and even then Master Chief really isn't the "last" Spartan, he is just the last one we know 100% is still in the fight.

Although I've never owned a Halo game myself, I did play the first one a bit at a friend's place and it's one of the series I regret never getting into. From the little I saw of it, it seems like with its fast-paced action it was some sort of spiritual successor to Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. The co-op campaign is also something that I wish was more common in games.

So I /salute Halo.
