Canada! A futuristic/dictator communist Canada!
Where giant cyborg bears, moose, and beavers vie for control of...Montreal, Quebec, and Vancouver!

how about playing as a dinosaur, and earlier mammal like reptile, or after the dinosaurs, but before modern man? having them 3 choices, then playing out the lifestyle of an animal you choose, having conflict and survivability all rolled into one game...i'd play it ^_^
EVO: The Search for Eden. Fantastic game, I recommend finding a copy on eBay or something.

a setting that hasn't been done 2 homosexual action heros have to well do anything. there done doesn't matter were why or how as long as there are two homosexuals guys as the main characters (and by main i mean you play them and games that let you choose don't count)
Super Mario Brothers. It seriously makes sense if you think about it.

Rumor is that Dante's Inferno will become a trilogy. The setting of the third game is obvious.

How about a game set in Canada where you fight for the liberation of Quebec?
The only downside of this game would be that you can never actually win.

As far as I can tell, there hasn't been a videogame set underground. There so much potential: Morlocks, Chuds, mining.... uh... Well, I'm sure others can think of any other things. :p

An RPG in stone Age, if there is one, I would like to try it.
Or even earlier than that, a game where you're one of the monkey predecesors of the human race and have to fling from tree to tree searching for bananas and battling T-rexes. Awesome or what?
The Adventures of Darwin had a similar premise. You started off as monkeys and played through levels to evolve.

There was a stone age mmo game but its closed down now. I remember a really old one called Sapeins i think i had a demo of and played it looong time ago, you actually had to flint your own arrow heads and that was hard. On the note of an underground game, theres been dig dug and such.. but an entirely underground action/rpg game would be epic. Dwarves and Goblins vying for underground control in any genre > Age of Wonders had underground map portions and plenty of 'dungeons' are technically underground, but i want real caves with full exploration and several ways to dig out new places =/

As a couple people have said, what bout the stone ages? Play as a caveman trying to survive in the harsh ice age? Ancient Egypt could always be interesting too, certainly a lot of lore!

A game where you are Jewish person trying to escape from a German prison camp with a fucked up Nazi doctor who experiments on living and dead Jewish people (there was a guy who did the experiments like that).

How about the inside of a body?

Like you travel through bloodstreams and battle in the Stomach.

That or Neptune.
End level of System Shock 2, or the worm level from Gears of War 2.

i think prehistoric times haven't been covered alot, and if they have they have been awful.

Velociraptor here i come!

Also id like a GOOD Medabot game =)
There was a very old DOS program (it at least had graphics) that let you live the life of a dinosaur. It couldn't be beat though, you always starved to death, no matter what saurian you picked.

As far as the Stone Age suggestions, that's where the Civ games always start. But Hindu mythology, that's actually a really good idea. Some of the Vedas are goddamn ultraviolent.

There's a lot of future scenarios that haven't been done. Like alternate histories where the South won the civil war, or a worldwide religious dystopia.

I'm amazed District 9 hasn't been made into a game yet. It even had a gravity gun in it!

I'm not reading all 5 pages to see if anyone's already suggested this, but with all the games set in hell, why aren't there any games set entirely in heaven? Not games where you play an angel sent down to earth and the final stage takes you back up to heaven again or something, a game that start and finishes in heaven. Possibly you could play as one of the great angels like Michael or Gabriel during Lucifer's original rebellion against God.

Also, there should be a game set during the invasion of Central America. You know, based around the destuction of the Aztec, Inca and Mayan cultures. Or possibly just before- 'Apocalypto: the Game' for instance.

Spore was ALMOST going to do that, actually, you made the animals, etc other people did too, you make the planet, almost complete sandbox, but then, EA castrated it RIGHT before the release.
